That was a really great film noir! I love the clothes, how everybody smoked and never coughed, had a drink all the time, went dancing! The ladies wore gloves and had gorgeous legs and slim waistlines, the fellas wire hats and double breasted suits- so much more handsome look than the tight trousers guys wear now! Yeah I wish I could go back in time. It was before I was born but it appeals to me.

@ ....Hi...I agree. I am 73 and I can speak from personal experience that for the most part, Society was a lot more well behaved in my younger years than today. Our society was founded on and lived by the Judeo-Christian ethics, morality, and decency & respect for others. Yes, we have always had the criminals and mean people; always have, always will have. But the farther away Society gets from those Judeo-Christian principles, the less civilized people become. It seems as though we have lost the good sense and rational thinking to say: "This far, but no further." Society has had to endure and suffer under Woke-ism, DEI, transgenderism allowing males to compete against females and use female dressing rooms and bathrooms....insane..., critical race theory...White "privilege", electing admitted Marxists to Congress ( Bernie Sanders, A.O.C. and others ), electing Ilhan Omar to Congress who says she hates America and freedom loving people. There are many other examples of anti-Judeo-Christian values & principles to numerous to add here. This is right out of the Marxist hand-book; the Communist 10 point plan to destroy America and any other free country. But all of this insanity was stopped yesterday, January 20, 2025, when President Trump was sworn into office. He immediately sat down and put an end to this Marxist madness with his signing of many Executive Orders, reversing far too many years of corruptness and Humanity-destroying regulations & policies. America has been given a chance to regain its fundamental Judeo-Christian values. I pray that America doesn't blow it.

Old buildings did smell different for sure cuz I was born in 1957 n i remember buildings n stores n offices had a decidedly different smell n look even around the outside n between the houses!! I remember how different the hospital waiting room was when my Mom had my little sister Wendy n our Dad left us with me in charge on the waiting room bench while he visited her in her room n it was a photo in my head to this day. I seriously miss that feeling n atmosphere that prevailed back in the 1960's n 1970's because the buildings n homes were from the 1930's n 1940's thru the 1950s. I think the ozone layer wasnt as compromised and thin as it is now due to deterioration from pollution therefore even the way the light filtered through the sun was different as was the night air n lights when you were outside in your backyard or in the park when we were teenagers. It was truly amazingly noticeable to those of us that were there!!! I STILL dream in that atmosphere n ambience the way the air felt back then. You are correct when you noticed that occurrence as well!!

even more than the storyline in these old movies I watch them for the street scenes where i get to see life back then and I get to daydream putting myself there walking by a store dressed in a suit and tie wearing a fedora slightly tilted higher on one side. Or driving one of the cars etc... The more I watch old movies the easier it becomes to picture it in my mind. Even the smells from the dust and such I conjure up from my childhood around old buildings from the 40's though it was the 80's when I was in them myself I remember how old buildings smelled different than new ones even markedly so. The most profound thing is trying to wrap my head around the fact that in the movies set in their present everything was modern and state of the art to them. Man! Why is that so crazy to think about and not that they are old movies set in the past but old movies set In the present.

And yes, the clothes n styles n hats n cars were all sooo much more special compared to todays sweat pants hoodies n tennis shoes n baseball caps. We were dressy just to go out to do errands!!! No pajamas n slippers out in public for us and I miss it TOTALLY!!!

The films from the 30's are much more eccentric. After the war, America became a brutish, arrogant consumer society.

Sheldon Leonard always played bad guys, but when he stopped acting, he became a successful entertainment executive producing several hit TV shows including The Danny Thomas Show, Andy Griffith, etc.

Barry saw too many Cagney films and molded into Cagney. He was short, stocky and looked like Cagney. Still, a talented actor. Adele Mara was a typical looking 40's face and always enjoyable in movies and a good actress. The dialogue was excellent and humor extreme during the forties. Entertaining B movie.

How you ever noticed the way the police shoot from the waist, no aiming at all. That Jarvis car really looked good for going off the cliff and landing on the roof.
