I watched the whole documentary. What I didn’t like was the fact that they did so much victim blaming in regards to Phil Hartman that I actually at some parts found myself ALMOST sympathizing with Brynn. Then I had to snap back to reality and remember she killed her husband in his sleep with her children in the house! What was up with everyone talking about her like she was such a saint and not a murderer, and then with Phil they would say he was aloof and distant. No ones perfect but I feel like they spent more time on his imperfections than hers. He was workaholic and probably a bit awkward and shy. Plus maybe he wanted to get away from crazy eyes that kept nagging him about movie roles every 5 seconds. R.I.P. Phil, one of the funniest comedians of all time.

There’s so many wrongs in that relationship and I think because she was blonde with blue eyes and “attractive” they just ignored it. It’s quite bizarre.

i think the truth is their relationship was toxic and they were equal participants UNTIL SHE KILLED HIM. neither of them got what it sounds like they expected out of the marriage. she wanted to be famous and desired (by her husband as well as hollywood) and he wanted a trophy bride content to sit by the sidelines.

Crystal Aggrey were you able to see the whole thing? im pretty sure they said it when they talked about the variety show he was working on for NBC, but i might be getting my hartman docs mixed up ☺️ regardless, it’s obvious she had zero talent. it’s also obvious he had intimacy issues (and probably never loved brynn) but that in no way justifies what happened here. it just contributed to it. they both married for the wrong reasons as far as i can tell.

Wow, you can see from the clips of his audition tape for SNL just how much Phil LOVED performing. That's the first real footage in this documentary of Phil performing as he was hitting his comedic stride, & it's so striking because it's such a contrast to all of the footage & photos of him 'being himself'. He has looked so uncomfortable in every shot from 'real life'--his smiles look false, his eyes are cold & distant, he looks deeply ill-at-ease & like he's presenting a front 24-7 while the real Phil is hiding somewhere behind his own eyes. When he's in 'real life', he looks like a fish out of water. And then suddenly the footage of him auditioning, & he looks so...happy. He looks like he's where he belongs, doing exactly what he loves doing, & he is ENJOYING it so much. His eyes are warm, his whole personality is warm. It's hard to describe, but it's so obvious because of the contrast to all the shots & footage of him up until this time.

The one really huge mistake of his otherwise mostly charmed life. Sad I don’t think he found the one that fit him and understood him. He needed someone fine with being in the background supporting him and who was understanding of his needs to be able to work in a relationship. Someone that could be fine at their own not constantly dependent upon another person for validation and entertainment. His second wife may have been a soul mate but those you likely don’t marry either. They are most of the time a really good friend.
@beethovensfidelio

Well when you marry someone for shallow reasons, it’s not a surprise that the marriage would end badly (though not to the point of homicide I might add). I mean, Phil married Brynn because he wanted a trophy wife, and Brynn married Phil because she thought his star power would help her get one step closer to fame, which sadly it didn’t.

Aesha I agree! I’m from Minnesota (born and raised), and I think blonds are boring. And for a blond, her face was average, body good. But the key is (if I can use that word), blonds do NOT AGE WELL. The sun ☀️destroys the human skin, and it’s accelerated in fair skin people. The 40-50 year olds from highschool I knew, largely look 10-15 years older, then others with less fair skin. I’m not hating, talk to a Dermintogist. TRUTH!

What irks me about the news coverage of this tragedy and the comments on this doc was/is the victim blaming and judgmental holier than thou arm chair psychologists inferring an "the poor woman was taken hostage by cocaine" or "he had to be cheating on her for her to do this" or "he had to be abusive" narrative when they had no idea what was going on between them.. Only the people in a relationship know what it is really like when they are alone. We all have issues! The people I have known who were the most judgmental are the same ones who hate to be judged themselves.. The people who knew them both say he was a good guy even as he was hard to know because of "putting up walls" and she was insanely jealous both of any women he was working with and of his having a much more successful career than her. She couldn't even get a gig as Hee Haw eye candy.. Women like that often use sexism or such as an excuse when it might just be that she had no talent.. He DID! Men who "put up walls" often do so because they have been burned badly by being around people who constantly belittle them and their talents and try to cut them down to their own size so they can feel better about themselves..

This is a lot of revisionist history by feminists... in a couple years, it will be his fault he was murdered. These people are insane. "He became cold and distant..." Meaning... "Phil went to work to put food on everyone's plate and had a thriving career to support." His first wife said he called her "a black hole of need who should go live her life." What if she was? He gives her total trust and freedom... and now she pisses on his bones because she never made anything of her life. This thing is garbage. Everything out of Leftist Hollywood is apparently.

I don't know that, that's totally fair. If a person has damage and is actively working to get better (therapy, rehab,etc.) and their partner supports them in that, I think that's a healthy relationship. And that's the thing; Brynn had issues yet stubbornly refused to take care of herself and blamed everyone else for her shortcomings.

l watched this twice. lts weird that vicki was so beautiful ...but never landed any jobs. Maybe she was a really bad actor? Anyway its clear she was a jealous gold digging person that ended up sinking TWO ships! Horrors!

If she would have fixed her nose, she may have gotten more movie parts she wanted, looked ravaged by the white stuff.

I wish this pointed out more what a controlling and abusive person she was. Men can be abused as well. I know he had his faults but to not paint her in the light she should be painted is a disservice

This is so backwards and fucked up. His wife was a murdering psychopath and they're talking about her so fondly, saying she was this starry-eyed beautiful perfect woman who just made a teensy little mistake. Whoever made this is sick and you should be ashamed of yourself.
