For anyone interested, the piano at the end is "Lezione di Piano" by Ludovico Einaudi. It appeared on his 2006 album "Divenire".

The ability to determine if a person is being truthful is almost wholly reliant on being able to see their face and register their facial expressions. Regardless of religious importance, it needs to be removed in order for a judge and jury to be certain the testimony they hear is truthful.
@m41incanis
@m41incanis 6 жыл бұрын
No it does not. Evidence is not what one or more people perceive from a persons expression, regardless of whether sometimes, it turns out to be correct. That just does not amount to empirical evidence.
@didderjade

Scientific studies show that judges and juries possess negative biases based on certain people's skin color and appearance regardless of actual presented evidence. Another study showed that even experts are no better at determining if a person is lying based on facial expressions than random chance. So in fact, it might be better if *everyone* were veiled on the stand.

so you are against autisitcs in the jury then? can't be fair unless they can identify facial expression right?

See, apart from what's been said above, being exposed in a way you're unused to is going to change your body language. For instance if I was asked to testify topless it would make me extremely uncomfortable and likely change the way I sit, express, I'll likely be more hesitant, forget more details, because i'll be distracted by my discomfort. So it won't even make it easier, it will make it harder to test the veracity of the witness' testimony, if you're looking at body language alone (which you should never do anyway).

@@devononair maybe you are taking the piss, but can still see it. Anyways, he said the ones that filled in Jedi on the last Australian religion census would have to be forced to dress like Obi 1 Kenobi. But I don't know if he meant padawan or master. But bringing a light saber to court must be quite cool.

Your religion has no bearing on court cases and the rules for conducting such.. But if you're short on cash, shoplift in a veil for sure, just don't park too close to the shops, CCTV may miss your face, but won't miss your car rego, so park next door.... (Top theft tips!) :)

It’s an English court under British law. In a Christian country. The veil if ordered by a judge should be removed. For the purpose of security in general veils should be banned inside any premises or institution

It's a clash of cultures, isn't it? When you go to a country, respect their customs. But if this is home grown, throw out the religious fanatics who promote this. In the end, it is about how you feel about being open, respecting your looks and respecting the fact that not all folks who look at you want to fuck you or have salacious thoughts. I for one will not put up with this. It's not even liberalism, it's an assault on my people's commonsense and shared values.

Of course they should remove the veil. You have to be able to verify that they are who they say they are, as well as facial expressions.
@sebastiancarl3285

it is religious. would you object if someone removed a cross from a Christian, or a hat from a jew.
@reenierossi7669
@reenierossi7669 8 жыл бұрын
Neither one of those things determine what a person's face looks like (which one would need to do in a court room - to know that they are who they say they are). If the hat covers the face, then of course, it should be removed.

Sebastian Carl: If the cross covered their entire head, obscuring their identity? Of course! No one's objecting to hats or crosses, it's identity obfuscation, how does that simple bit of logic evade you? Oh yeah, religion logic.

One of the first articles I read about Eddie, in '98, was a New Yorker profile, so he would have been in his mid-30s then. In it he said that in his early 20s, he had thought about changing sex and would live part time as "Susan", trying to behave more feminine, but over time he realized that wasn't exactly what he wanted; he didn't want to give up being Eddie. More recently, he's said that he used to think he was half-boy, half-girl but now thinks he may be all boy with a extra side of girl. Not everyone falls strictly on one side of the gender divide. Richard O'Brien (of Rocky Horror fame) has said he's about 60/40 male/female in his opinion and for now, uses he/him/M designations, but if it were more common, he'd call himself third sex.

Eddie identifies himself as a transvestite. This means dressing like the opposite sex, but not becoming it. It is not the same as transgender (feeling of being born as the wrong gender, whether or not a change is made) or transsexual (wanting to change genders and then doing so). These are very much generalizations, but should give you an idea of the difference and ease any confusion.

Disagree with the outrage at Muslim lady asked to remove garb to give evidence. She needs to prove who she is. Religious beliefs should definitely be secondary to a nation's law.
