The Last Madden To Blend Animations, Physics, and Ragdoll

I STRONGLY recommend Very Slow/100 or Slow/0 when it comes to Speed/Threshold. They really give the animations time to shine and enhance the feel of the game. It's not perfect, but it's probably the best Madden at combining all three. Enjoy!

This is odd to me since 18 was the first to use the Frostbite Engine which was totally animation dependent. Unless they were still using the Ignite engine for physics and just used Frostbite for graphics. Then totally abandoned to Ignite for Frostbite in 19 of course. I always thought I had less user control with 18 when compared to earlier Maddens bur maybe I'm thinking of 19.

18 still incorporated ragdoll despite transitioning to more animations. If it wasn't for the legs going limp like they got shot on tackles, I think it's actually a pretty good system! But I've grown pretty fond of 19's gameplay once you tweak the gameplay speed and speed threshold

@brucej.willson4764 Sports games and FPS games are garbage now. I'm barely skating by playing CFB25 and M21. I also enjoy not raging all the time. It's helped my mood overall getting away from shooters. The camping and passive play styles grind my gears. I still have my montages on a playlist, just not public. Wanted my channel to be more streamlined with Sports Games.

Been obsessed with comparing madden maximum and ncaa recently and found this video. It’s astonishing to find How real madden can be and they almost just choose not to. The run at 2:02 is something I never saw madden do before. It’s a shame it’s like the better tech we get from game companies the worse madden gets

I think I legit would have gained another 10 yards had he not assisted Luke Kuechly with the tackle lol I'm honestly more hopeful for M25 than I have been in YEARS. Authentic runs styles, better physics, outcomes, animations, this could be a year to get back into Madden. But we will see!

I've noticed that the "best" Maddens come at very beginning or end of a new engine. Either before they add too much legacy code, or they give up on it right when it's a few tweaks away from being decent.

I've been playing 18 most this time still just bc of the physics. Crazy how 19 just ripped physics right out without a word. It amazes me how EA manages to find ways to regress. I only went back to 23 now cuz I got my PS5 after my PS4 bricked and none of my saves were on cloud, so my CFM was gone. M23 is mildly playable after all the patches now I guess, but they ruined so much by removing physics.

I have it on gamepass but uninstalled it after like 15 minutes lol I felt like the game was playing itself and I was just watching. That's how I feel when there's no physics present. While the user experience isn't the best on M19, if you're into visual simming or coach mode, it's not half bad when the CPU strings together all the animations. If you ever try M19 again, set the gameplay speed to very slow and set the threshold to 0. It's quite smooth looking.

Madden 18 is a good blend of everything. M25 is definitely my favorite but the animation library is quite limited. I've been mostly playing Madden 19 when I do game.

I feel like my biggest issue with these games after Madden 12 was the animations. Madden 12 was the last good Madden because it was before the ultimate team focus and the fact that it was old enough that we kind of understood it was gonna be animation dependent. Madden 13 and beyond really had no excuse to be so lackluster in that regard especially with all of the missing features the older maddens still have. I know it's small but after Madden 12 the running animations got so much worse looking to the point that Madden 24's run animations looked like they were straight out of super Mario. I can't explain it but the run animations in the new games just look so strange to me. I know it's a small thing but it's hard to take the game serious when everything looks so goofy. I will say CFB 25 looks a lot better than Madden this year. I imagine they have a lot of the same issues but it seems a bit cleaner animation and gameplay wise. If not for nothing else at least CFB 25 is a breath of fresh air since NCAA 14 which was released over 10 years ago now. The downside being no PC for CFB. Which is really unfortunate considering the PC community is the only thing keeping NCAA 14 alive at this point and why so many people were excited for CFB but I guess PC will always be an after thought to EA. I don't know. I'm just so conflicted over Madden these days. They were part of my childhood and I remember always being excited for next year's game until 2016's. Although I did buy Madden 25 this year and find it fun it's definitely not a great or even a good game. At this point it's just a game of nostalgia for me. I genuinely don't believe EA can make a good simulation football game or even a good balanced Simulation/Arcade football game.

@@bobbymartinez2580 I'm right there with you. Ball carrier movement is sort of a make or break thing for me too. I don't know why it's so hard to have a realistic running animation. I always said that it looked like a toddler running away from their parents. Waddley and hoppy looking. I will say Madden 19 is bearable and Madden 21 Next Gen is great. Old gen Madden 21 is trash though. Madden 25 (the original) has a good one as well. This is probably why I find myself playing GameCube Madden and APF so much just because most of the current Maddens look so bad.

@@SimFootballFanatic A toddler running from their parents is such a good way to describe it lmao. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks there's something really off about it. I do agree 2013 Madden 25 was really good and I do still play it to this day. I know a lot of people trashed it but probably only second to Madden 12 it's the most nostalgic feeling Madden for me. I wish I could go back and give Madden 21 a chance but I'm fully switched to pc at this point and they removed it from the EA store and Steam. So, unfortunately I can't. I wish there were more good football games in general that everyone could enjoy on all platforms but I know that probably won't happen.

Also i noticed that in practice mode sometimes the replay mode are glitching, there is fps drops in the replay but in-game everything works just fine, did you ever had that issue? Also what gamemode do you play on m18? I didnt really like coach mode bc there is nothing really to do there.

@mk_18 When you slow the gameplay speed, the replays skip a little bit... It's unfortunate but it's part of the game. I spend most of my time in franchise but you can set all that to auto and just play the games if you want!

@@SimFootballFanatic 2k8 has the best gameplay hands down. I can get behind 25 and I love 05-08’s gameplay. 2k always was ahead of madden gameplay-wise, depth and immersion was madden’s thing. Now we have neither good gameplay nor immersion

Madden 18 only existed on XB1/PS4. I've tweaked the settings to make it more fluid. Game Speed & Threshold work wonders for these older Maddens.

@@WildLionGames I recommend: All Pro or All Madden Competitive style (less scripting) Very Slow Speed & 100 Threshold or Slow Gameplay Speed & 0 Threshold That's how you achieve the fluid gameplay.

I honestly roll with All Madden for user play and All Pro for visual sim. I'm not very good at subjective things like sliders.

Best Madden is 07, 08, 09. And on Next Gen 12, 13, and 25 Anniversary Edition (14). 18 was pure garbage matter fact when they removed Challenge the Play and chain gangs they spit in your face.

Pretty much any PS2 madden was good. I like 18 with tweaked settings for coach mode or visual sim. Madden 19 is also okay at times with my settings. Madden 21 (Next Gen) with 0 threshold is also really good despite the old gen version being trash. I picked up 15 a month or so ago and I think it's worth a shot too. Something about the gameplay feels a little off to me but it's definitely visually better than 25 but user control on 25 is really good. I haven't played the new 25 but the physics they say it has looks bad at times lol

Gameplay on this Madden was good. It felt decent and it looked good. I don’t care for this Madden because of the way the color of the game looked and also the franchise and modes were bad. Gameplay was the only thing this game did good. I played it 2 years straight because Madden 19 was bad

Madden 17 almost does it for me but the user control just isn’t good enough for me... Madden 18 has more user control then probably any Maddens on that gen of consoles. I will have to do something with that color tho. Also I’ll make sure I get them speed threshold and game speed right. I’m going to do Slow/0 or Normal/0

Madden 10 does it for me on the PS3 out of all the rest I would say. It was between 12-13-11-10 10 just had a little more bells and whistles so honestly that’s why I’m sticking with it. It’s gameplay is fun but not the most smooth and realistic that I would like. It’s fun and keeps you immersed. That’s all that should matter. If you can find realistic gameplay good job that’s a bonus with Madden just can be so hard to find.
