This is where it all started. The zombie apocalyptic genre. And don’t lecture me about them not being zombies, they are definitely part of that genre.
@LordZontar
@LordZontar 6 күн бұрын
Cortman called them vampires, they did have the same weakness against garlic and sunlight, and yes they feed on blood. But I too have long considered the mutants more like zombies rather than vampires, though I don't quite even classify them as such. They're still alive somewhat but slowly dying off from the plague, just a mere question of time before the last of them are gone and we see how the weaker ones are found dead each day. And yes, this movie can be regarded as the beginning of the zombie apocalyse genre, especially as George Romero himself cited it as one of his inspirational sources for Night Of The Living Dead.

Truly an amazing film from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Mr. Price remains one of the best actors and his voice is both unique and memorable. The emotion in this film really strikes home, a testament to outstanding acting. The reprisal of the 1970's Omega Man with Mr. Charlton Heston is indeed similar. When both men passed from this world to the next, it was clear their talents were needed elsewhere. Bravo, gentlemen.

For all of its flaws, this is easily the best (and most faithful) screen adaptation of *I Am Legend*, not least because Matheson himself worked on the script. He wasn’t satisfied with the final result, so he used his pen-name Logan Swanson. Fun fact: the cinematographer on this movie, shot in Italy, was Franco Delli Colli, the cousin of the legendary Tonino Delli Colli. Tonino’s credits as cameraman include several Sergio Leone masterpieces, including *The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly* and *Once Upon A Time in the West*. That’s why it looks so good!

@pierremercier4724

I read Richard Matheson’s novel many years ago. I knew there was a film adaptation. Many thanks to CCC for allowing us to watch this classic horror movie. Especially since Vincent Price has always been one of my favorite actors in horror cinema. His numerous collaborations with American filmmaker Roger Corman, during the 1960s, are always a real treat for any genre lover! That said, I can’t help but believe that another master of horror cinema most likely took inspiration from this film to offer us a classic of horror science fiction cinema. I am referring to George Romero, with his famous Night of the Living Deads, released in 1968. The parallels between these two films are striking. Finally, as one other Internet user very aptly pointed out, this film is all the more powerful as we have just emerged from a pandemic that has affected the entire planet, with its share of deaths, suffering and fear. How this film, without forgetting the novel that is its source, joins a universal feeling, the fear of seeing humanity disappear under the effect of an uncontrollable evil. And it is without forgetting the final, which we find in many American films, the ultimate hope offered by the Christian religion, symbolized here by the church, in which the last man, as the main character himself describes, find the death and reunion of this new humanity. A hope tinged with suspicion and bitterness, far from the famous happy endings of traditional Hollywood cinema.

With a 99% survival rate in the US, as of last month? I don't see the comparison... As far as World Pandemics go, Covid-19 is actually pretty tame, just incredibly infectious. That survival rate is the same for those vaccinated and those who are not, according to the CDC. Meaning, it has been that survival rate since the beginning. The vaccine only reduces the severity of symptoms, which therapuetics can also do. Almost all of the COVID-19 deaths had co-morbidities, so it contributed to their deaths, but was not the causation.

I miss Vincent Price :( A superb actor and an incredibly nice person from everything I've heard. Modern Hollywood has nothing like him, Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, and probably never will again. The Last Man on Earth is an underappreciated classic that's 10X better than I Am Legend! By the way a bit of trivia: George Romero said the vampires in this movie were the inspiration for the zombies in Night of the Living Dead.

I love how the child is not provided any reassurance or validation, by either of the adults, as she discovers she's gone blind and cries out for her mom, almost as if the concept of showing concern is totally alien, but what's even better, is how the dog got the attention the child deserved, cause he thought it wasn't sick, reminds me of what it's like for CENSORED BY KZbin to try reaching out for help, still to this day

This movie, I Am Legend, and The Omega Man are all based on the book I Am Legend, by Richard Matheson which was published in 1954. The premise is that humans have mutated due to a virus/vaccine he created. As he goes around killing them while they sleep, he becomes the legend, the boogeyman, that will come to kill them in their sleep. He’s the horror story they tell their children. Give the book a read, it’s good and fills in the plot holes well.

I have seen people imitate the voice of Peter Lorre, Bela Lugosi, Claude Rains, Lon Chaney Jr, and everybody imitated Boris Karloff, but I have never seen anybody imitate Vincent Price. His voice was so smooth and elegant. But able to become so 'deliciously evil' that it would give you chills even while you admired how sophisticated it sounded. I really don't think his voice could be imitated. Favorite example: when he did the monologue for Michael Jackson's song "Thriller".
