Btw, there is a huge misconception in the arcade racing community about countersteering. You dont have to countersteer "by hand" in real life either. The car does it for you, it's called self-steer and as soon as you let the wheel go it will align to the direction of travel. You only have to catch it at the right moment and actually turn into the corner, not the opposite direction.

@@TK7-VB idk about that. What you are saying doesnt match with my experience through 4 years of simracing/simdrifting, and developing my own sim "tech demo". The physics of self-steer are complicated. It has 3 component: 1. Pneumatic trail (because tires stretch) 2. Mechanical trail (if the suspension has a positive caster angle) 3. Gyroscopic effect of the rotating wheel. These 3 components (if all present in perfect harmony) will self steer so much more quickly and precisely then a human ever could. There are some cars of course where there is not that much caster angle (which is the biggest factor out of the 3) and in that case you have to be very active with the steering. But in the typical RWD front engine sports car in general you can rely on self-steer pretty comfortably. I have a few assetto drift videos uploaded to my channel, and you can see there that im barely even touching the wheel.

What I mentioned in the video was not about how a car reacts in real life. It’s an arcade racing game and I’m playing on a controller meaning that when I’m not touching the stick, I expect the wheels to be in a straight position and not fully left or right. BTW I don’t think if such thing would happen in real life as well, no car would self steer it self into a power slide when the back kicks out at 150MPH. Maybe mid drift when you want to make a transition but otherwise I don’t think so, I might be wrong but I have never seen.

In my honest Opinion, I think Hot Pursuit is the most NFS-ish game in the franchise. The game is basically like the incarnation of the title "Need for Speed". And Rivals also felt like a different take from the standard NFS Formula since it's gameplay is mostly true to the HP Style.

True. But I think Rivals was only close to HP on the surface. Car physics were not close to HP and the driving mechanics was a mixture as well and these are the most important. Deep down it was just another NFS. It was a long time ago though, I might be wrong.But I do remember that after 1 hour I had enough.

@@visionsoftritonian1970 If we compare car physics between both games Rivals has slightly light cars. But it's cars has that diversed car weight thing like in HP. Also cars have a great sense of speed compared to what ever 2015 and Payback had. But not as strong as HP though. And I like the driving system. It matches with most parts of the map, not a messy handling model like in Most Wanted (2012). But it doesn't match with narrow roads though. But driving is somehow satisfying for me because it feels like a mix between HP and Burnout Paradise. And I like how well they have used the Open World idea in the game. There are always racers to compete with. And you get money for everything you do. Also the sensitive damage system makes Auto repair shops so valuable. It's not as perfect as Hot Pursuit. But it definitely better than other NFS Games (besides MW, Underground 2 and HP) imo. I think it's the last good NFS Game out there. Definitely better than most recent ones. And I think Rivals's map is the most beautiful map in the franchise. It's a soo satisfying map. But shortcuts are worse though. 😅 IMO, HP is the only one that truly nailed shortcuts.

The game sometimes freeze for a few seconds and some areas of the map has sudden glitches. But those are so rare and don't ruin your experience. The most negative thing in the PC version is that Corvette Stingray doesn't work properly. What I like the most in Rivals is the challenging gameplay. Cops are like demons and the reward and risk mechanic is so intense. It also has actually working covertible roofs if you interested. They are not player controlled, instead the game automatically puts the roof when raining and takes it off when you enter a sunny area. (At least they are working) That game is so underrated IMO. Ahhh another thing is that the multiplayer mode had various bugs at launch, there are still some rare server disconnections. (And you cannot pause the game even in the Offline mode.) Those few negative sides aside, it's a great-good game.

I think it has been a staple formula for NFS to put traffic on the racing line, bc it's easy and give the players some challenge. IMO they put some experience player during alpha to drive certain levels on the game, analyze their racing line and put traffic there

4:42 I heard this so many times when it comes to criterion nfs games, I never had any input lag, and the physics feel great. i dont understand why anyone would like a racing game when the physics feel awful yet you're here talking about how good hot pursuit is. the wheel turns by itself bc it take the slip angle, basically think of it as stability control, I can replicate this effect in my own physics model with enough tweaking, it doesnt feel artificial and is extremely casual friendly, kinda ingenious.

First part of your comment opens a long conversation but second part I disagree, A car always tries to straighten up the front wheels if it’s going sideways unless you are mid drift and trying to make a transition from one side to another and still you have to hold it after the transition, other than that I have never seen an actual car locking the wheels full on towards the corner like that, and I have never seen this in any other game. I might be wrong but I’ve never seen such thing.

@@visionsoftritonian1970 true its dat weird as in it only looks towards the slip angle while it knows a drift is engaged, so around when the slip angle is like 12 to 15 degrees and above, powerslide territory, which explains why it feels weird, it's either grippy and doesn't turn or drifty and immediately wants to stop drifting, which means its more handicapped than bad, it all comes down to how the physics model handles powerslides, which in hp10 case, it just skips it, mw2012 fixes that problem, cars only drift as a respond to breaking traction completely, it's not a different state, it's more of a recovery mechanism, mw12 feels like a simcade racer the turns the stability control up to 11 when u start oversteering or understeering, and the best way to go fast in mw12 is to just go fast, not just drift.

I love HP 2010 and its remaster, it's hella lot of fun. But I believe they should remake their most iconic games like MW. Yup, remake, to make graphics look like 2023 but with keeping driving mechanics. They might add more tuning parts, more cars from that era. Or do what Activision did with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, same thign with NSF Underground games.

A nice detail I love about this game is in the online Arms Race mode where it's a race with equipment, however the nice thing is that the police dispatcher actually sets up roadblocks and helicopters with their own custom lines, stating that no interceptor units can get up and close to stop you so they're gonna do whatever they can with support units. It's a really nice touch that makes the world feel alive.

this game and underground 2 were my first contact with racing, and i loved it, i was like 7 and could do a straight line, but man, the sounds and visuals, my dad buyed a wheel gaming with pedals and hanbrake, i could even reach the pedals and nedeed a small well under it to reach, even the fact that i could end the first race, but repeat it over and over, like the airport, i knew every corner of it, and it was worth it, every single second, there were good times.

Putting the cars around a circuit was not an innovation from NFS franchise and its been done by many other games and can not be considered as significant change but a game like NFS shift was a huge change. MW chase style and progression system or the street racing in underground games can be considered as the identity of NFS in my opinion. Nobody can do it better than them. But its my opinion, I might be wrong.

I played this to 100% steam achievement and it was a blast (execpt the slow porsche multiplayer achievement). I personally think that the 2010 version still seems to be great and a remaster was kinda unnecessary. It's worth buying if you have not played it back in 2010.

Are you really trying to say almost every Need for Speed game is the same as Most Wanted 05? I would agree if you said the last few Need for Speed games have felt the same since NFS 2015. However, your video showed The Run, Prostreet, Most Wanted 2012, Undercover as having the same formula as Most Wanted 2005, which is just straight up wrong. Even saying Prostreet is the same game as Most Wanted 2005 is straight up laughable and gets rid of all your credibility, as Prostreet is a game that focuses on closed track racing with no police at all. Even if we ignore all that, a lot of the features that you praised HP2010 for are present in a lot of NFS games and didn't convince me that it was unique. You liked the fact the game has time trials, good sounds, good visuals, attention to detail with the road textures, and a good handling model, when a lot of NFS games have all these features too in their own respect. I also don't get why you like to bash NFS Rivals a lot?? I agree it wasn't the best, but it's basically just the same thing as NFS HP 2010. Not sure how you're trying to say how it's in any way similar to MW 2005, when I'm pretty sure Rivals had no customization as well, had the same cop vs racer dynamic where you can play both sides, and you had weapons to use mid-race. Overall, this video was absolutely baffling to watch and honestly felt like you had nostalgia cloud your vision for this game. While I agree it is a pretty good NFS game for what it is, the arguments you gave were very weak. There are so many NFS games that are different from MW 2005 after its release.

1:07 most wanted was a return to the style of NFS 3 but with some modernisations and the story mode from underground integrated. I replayed it recently and i'll tell you what, it's not as good as i remember but nothing is actually as good as you remember. Although it was the first game that made my dad come up and tell me to turn it down. No regrets. A fully modified Porsche Carrera GT with the 5.1 speakers up full blast, revving the engine off the limiter in neutral was definitely a life experience for me.

Blackbox actually wanted to bring the cops to Underground 2 but couldn't because Honda didn't want their cars involved in pursuits and that's why they only reappeared in Prostreet and the Shift games

I got much goosebumps playing this rather than Unbound. I like seriously, how does a game has such a good turbo sound? Plus the physics to me were decent to me, it was hard to make use of it first but got used to it. And if you think the physics are trash in nfs games, go and play sim racing games. This isn’t your average “sim racing game”. Sure other nfs had good physics of driving but still we need to know it’s a arcade game.

It's like i'd said even back when & still do, it's worthy of being called Hot Pursuit 3. Technically it is, but to have the name itself, it is indeed deserving of it. Also, i'd thought of it to be the last proper NFS to date. Sure, ones after it have their good points here & there, but they haven't been as good since HP3. And everything from NFS2015 onwards, have certainly gone downhill even more. Have played through them, beisdes unbound. Though i would just once when i find it cheap enough. But everything from the "reboot" & afterwards, they have lost their shine. Not longer interested in the NFS series, like i were years ago. The titles from HP3 & back are still ones that are good, and do like to play them. But yes, HP3 was the last proper one. Never been the same since.

I think rivals was a breath of fresh air ngl. It had the same idea as hot pursuit. I highly disagree on the car handling. Drifting is faster for only some cars, not every car. For example, the police Porsche can easily maintain 230 mph when drifting, but when compared to the Diablo which will lose A LOT more speed when drifting. Counter steering helps you get out of the drift quicker and speeds up your car since your making your car straighter. This in my opinion is need for speeds best car system. Also turning the siren lights and headlights is an advantage in multiplayer, it makes it much harder for the person in front of you to predict where you are and will only have the slight engine sound. Me when I yap 😭

I don't have the remastered version, but this game seems boring and feels unfinished. There isn't even an intro, just a title screen. And the physics are awful, the cars steer themselves during a drift! Its awful.
