wow, the trains in America are very big, even though the trains in India use a rail width of 1676mm
@archstanton5973 Жыл бұрын
You can thank the provincial idiot East India Brits for that. For whatever reason Ramsay/Dalhousie thought that 1676mm was more "stable" for the South Asia environment *but at the same time decided that the loading gauge used in Britain would be fine for the same South Asia environment and thus damning South Asia to the restrictive British loading gauge.* Meanwhile the trains in Russia and China have MUCH more generous loading gauges because the Soviet Union imported a great many of their locomotives from the United States and so when the Soviet Union went on its great rail building projects from 1930 onward, they built their rail system to the large American loading gauge. AND, because China inherited japanese American built steam locomotives AND China imported a lot of Soviet American-based locomotives so when China went on its massive post-1949 rail building program (what little rail network China had pre-1949 was massively damaged during WWII), China, like the Soviet Union, built their rail network with large loading gauges to fit their American-based locomotives.

These locomotives were made by America's General Motors Electro Motive Division. And their model no we're GM EMD GT46PAC or GM EMD GT46MAC. Where PAC is a passenger loco and MAC is a Goods loco. Here in India, Indian Railway renamed them as WDP4D or WDG4D. GT46PAC is called WDP4D and GT46MAC is called WDG4D. Where W stands for wide gauge or board gauge, D stands for Diesel traction or Diesel Motive power, and P stands for suitable for Passenger train and G stands for suitable for Goods train. The number 4 is the chronological number of the locomotive and the last letter D stands for Dual Cab version.

0:30 wthat are those old platforms used for? are they part of an old passenger station? I find it neat that the rebuilt SD50 was running long-end-first by itself! It would be cool if some American railroads bought ES43ACmi locomotives to replace their aging EMD locomotives used for local duties! I also noticed that the ES58ACmi had its emergency beacons flashing! Union Pacifc 844 used to have an emergency flashing light until 2016! It was also neat to see 899 testing again! I think 905 has found a new owner, as it used to be gray with the GE logo on the side!

The tracks have different gauges i.e Broader gauge ( 1676 mm compared to standard 1435mm ) . The Indian railway tracks requires a lower axle load against American tracks that can sustain high axle loads. The most notable distinguishing thing is fuel tank. American railways is predominantly freight and operates for long strech of routes with literally some places having nothing in between on flip side Indian railways doesn't require such big fuel tanks due to shorter trips and being passenger centric does not require continuous long stretches operation. Again the length of average indian train is shorter than that of American counterparts and thereby American locomotives are heavier and bulkier against comparatively lighter indian locomotive ( you can clearly see the axle load playing a significant part here too ).
@paharibrat2301 Жыл бұрын
@@schrodinger1811 There are dedicated freight corridors being built where the freight traffic will only run at higher speeds and access for having double decker containers - one stacked on top the other... so a single train will have double the containers going at an average speed of 60 kmph or more with very less stopping and no passenger trains are allowed on the freight corridors. Indian Railways being very a passenger centric passenger railway trains are given preference over freight due to which freight trains took double the time to reach the destinations. Now with dedicated freight corridors, delay in delivery of freight will be history.

@@parmeetsingh3086 they tested the locomotives using standard gauge bogies and after the testing was over the ones that were to be shipped to India were made brand new with broad gauge bogies. testing was done on standard gauge configuration and conforming to the US Standards of railway technology.
