I would rate that penultimate scene in the movie as the best cinematographic scene ever made. It is nothing short of perfection. It is a scene that tells 10,000 words, and without any dialogue - the relentless push up the mountain in pursuit, the crescendo, tge sense of hope, devastation, crushing loss, despair, anger, revenge, the heart of a warrior, whose heart is broken at the sight of the death of his son, that no father shoukd ever see, the despair of the sister who takes her own life rather than face her other fate, the trauma of her sister as she witnesses it... it is so packed with intensity of human experience, in silence without words, that i cannot imagine it ever being matched. And of course, it goes without saying, the music accompanying the entire scene lifts it to that perfection.

@_MjG_4 ай бұрын
@@finalgirl640 Ecstasy of Gold is only played once & considered the secondary piece of music in the movie. The main movie score (no name) is played throughout the movie in a variety of different ways. There's also different music for the main climatic shootout & a sprinkle of other music as well in other scenes. The music in general throughout the movie, is superb & why it deserves to be considered in the best soundtrack of all time. When someone lays claim to best movie soundtrack of all time, I don't see what styles of music has anything to do with being exempt from that consideration. There are many movie soundtracks styles different from each other & styles different to The Last of the Mohicans.

@_MjG_ oh I get that. I understand what you're saying. I just don't think one is better than the other for several reasons. I thought you were specifically mentioning the "theme" for some reason. But Ennio Morricone and Trevor Morris and Dougie MaClean are all excellent composers.

One of my favourite films of all time - as an Irish person who sees history, not only as a memory of the past, but as a constant reminder of how we got to the present - I see my history, the Native American and the Palestinians past and so many other cultures in this modern world, as a never ending reactionary movement against the erosion of an ancient world that is being destroyed forever unless we wake up to the greed that commodifies us all. A greed that sells our land, resources and culture as if it's a part of Disneyland.

The first time I really noticed the magic contained in this piece was when I heard it and had a rather eerie feeling, as if I too was watching it go by (like one of the countless wild creatures that come with curiosity and... Be careful looking at the world) the path on which Uncas, the son of Chingachgook and Magua of the Huron tribe, held their encounter and duel, which resulted in the loss not only of Uncas, but also of Alice Munro, who chose to follow Uncas to the realm of the great spirit.

This song quietly but ominously plays in the background everywhere Daniel Day Lewis walks. You don’t even know where it’s coming from. It comes out nowhere. Just like Daniel Day Lewis. Time stands still and everything freezes. Birds hold their position in mid flight. Crickets cover each others mouths. All scared the slightest of movements will cause a Daniel Day disturbance. Then the music fades away as Daniel walks out of our lives again. Leaving you frozen with disbelief, a fond memory and a new shiny pair of Italian leather shoes
