The whole "kiss" sequence, in my opinion, just shows the difference between this fungus infection and the usual zombie stuff. The cordyceps is just that, a fungus. It's not violent, it knows no rage, it's just trying to propagate. There is no zombie need for flesh or brains behind it, no bloodlust or rage virus. So if the new "vector" isn't violently defending itself, why should the fungus be forceful? There is no need for it. Just a quick transmission from head to head which can immediately reach the brain. Mission accomplished for the cordyceps.

i loved the clickers scene, i loved basically this entire episode besides the kiss scene, i wish they would of just went with the games scene for tess but maybe it was a way to show the network communication between the tendrils and the infected.

Tess death scene in the game is mostly for her because she didn’t wanted to become a runner but she only killed two FEDRA agents and didn’t help us at all because we still needed to fight them, in the show her death is heroic and actually helped Joel and Ellie, and with the infected it works better than just FEDRA.

If they ALL behaved that way, I wouldn't question it. But this was the only one that went for a kiss, so it's weird and dumb and even the actress herself said it was weird.

@@ThatSamoanGuy Not the only one, in the first episode after the accident and Joel is carrying Sarah, when we see multiple runners there’s some transferring the cordyceps through the mouth too and in the recent episode the Stalker tried to do it with Ellie and Riley.

They went ride or die with this ‘Mother Nature reclaims the Earth’ aesthetic that films like Studio Ghibli and games like Zelda championed, painting the world with lush nature, foreboding loneliness and an immeasurable scope and scale, as they were the most difficult to master, at least according to Neil Druckmann himself. I am in LOVE with the worldbuilding here.

I also like that Ellie just fucked up twice, thats what scared kid (especially one that didnt saw anything but basic fungus "zombie" when she was bitten) would do... i love they made all those characters more realistic in a way

For the minutes of 0:40 - 4:32, I was shocked because the cordyceps fungus infection was started in my homeland of Indonesia, but I'm also get hyped because I'm a "The Last of Us" big fan because the gameplay, the story and theme, even the characters, I'll giving The Last of Us 10 out of 10 for most surprising yet unexpected moments

Great and above all relaxing to watch you. Not the constant chatter of people who talk so much that I have to wonder if they hear anything from the dialogues at all. With you there is then a nice conversation at the end. I like it. Next episode will be great. As an absolute fan of the game, the next episode is definitely one of the best ever seen in series world. Pay attention to Joel's reaction just before he pulls Ellie away from Tess. He is not dead inside, you can see him clenching his jaws. He cannot say goodbye. He has received a mission from Tess as a last wish. When you say something, it becomes true. He represses everything. Great acting. Where Tess has knocked over the barrels, Joel's eyes looking incredulous.

Sadly I can't see Joel's voice with fresh eyes like you, Troy Baker has been my Joel for 10 years, like Ashley Johnson is my Ellie, and Bella does amazingly in her acting, but the patient in Ellies Voice in the game is my preference, for people that the last of us is new, I can easily see how Bella is killing it and she is doing incredible. But take me some time to get used to the delivery of lines, the great acting made it work, even though I prefer the more patient delivery

We played the game before watching the show because we wanted to experience the original. Can totally understand the preference for the original voice actors. However, it’s extremely tough to play a beloved character and not just do an imitation. To be true to the character but make it your own. So, in that sense, we feel like they are doing a phenomenal job. 🤗

It's just a detail, but the fact they depicted what a horror show Indonesia was by that time it's amazing. People leaving in patrol cars to dissappear forever was pretty common.

I loved the game and I love this series now. They did the clickers so damn f***ing awesome! Disturbing and terrifying af! The cinematography, the score, the atmosphere, the emotions ... just perfect! They are so good at building tension. There are so many shots I would love as a picture at my walls. I need the last scene with Ellie at my wall

I'm gone be completely honest here, the only engaging element in this episode is the clicker introduction. that's it. I kinda liked the interaction with tess and ellie at the beginning, but tess character in the TV show rubs me the wrong way. I do not feel the strong and independent essence like her counterpart in the video game, tess involvement in the TV show was cut very short compared to the video game. I would've liked to see a lot more from tess before hbo decided to write her off. She only lasted one and a half episode. We didn't even get to see her in action against any raiders or with Robert's men! I am highly disappointed how they've treated her character. Her sacrifice scene was poorly done, I didn't like it. Not one bit, it was very ridiculous and strange way kill off a character. I bet walking dead could pull off what it would've looked like if somebody French kiss a walker, that'll be the real kiss of death. I don't like Joel character in the TV show either, he lacks charisma, and he lacks expression. His scenes feel so dry at times that it takes you out of it but some times you can feel some type of effort there. I'm honestly like whatever with the Joel character, he is not remotely the same as the video game and he doesn't even try to be but I don't care about his character so I already set my expectations on Joel's character and made my peace with it than other characters. Ellie to me is doing a decent job in this TV show she is more balanced with her pros and cons than other characters. I'll give this episode a 4 out of 10, next episode I can't wait for ya'll to post cause I have a lot to talk about episode 3.

Will agree about Tess not getting enough screen time. Would’ve loved to see her interaction with Robert like it happened in the game. But so far love the series and acting in it. It’s different from the game, but the game will always be there for people that want to experience the story that way. 🤗
