Episode six of The Last Of Us has just aired and this episode saw a major shift out of the city and headed into Alberta's stunning mountains.
The sixth episode - "Kin" - was largely filmed in universities in Calgary as well as Canmore, which was turned into the town of Jackson, Wyoming.
In the episode, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) are joined three months after they escaped from Kansas City and the pair are making their way to Wyoming to find Joel's brother, Tommy.

I don't blame joel for being mad honestly. Joel was literally burning dead bodies, including children, having to do horrible jobs, seeing people be hanged, nothing but violence around him. While he's terrified because his brother hasn't messaged him in weeks. Goes out with Tess and ellie, tess dies, they go to frank and bill's both of them are dead, find kinship with henry and gets to see two children get along before once again tragedy strikes. He gets there not only is his brother alive and well but they have a bar, movie nights, there isn't literal death everywhere. Honestly I think Joel underreacted. I would have probably punched him in the face.

Joel has been struggling, making his way across the country, lost Tess all to try to find and save his brother. When he gets there he finds out his brother has been living the cosy life without a care in the world. Seems like Tommy didnt think of Joel at all, no attempt to contact him, no attempt to go get him. I can see why Joel would be pissed.

The horse is not CGI or a dummy, it's just resting a hoof lol Animals do it all the time in very hot or very cold grounds; they alternate resting their legs. It's like when people shift their weight from one leg to another when standing for a long time

No one froze the horse. It moved, it just stood still. Maria's sentence to Ellie about betrayal from people you trust is yet to come. Is probably the most important point of the whole series.

The old guy at the beginning wasn't Jacob's dad in Twilight, he was Seth and Leah's dad, Harry Clearwater. Joel hasn't heard from his brother in months when he's use to him checking in periodically, so I can understand why he's upset. He's been thinking Tommy's in danger and he's been doing all he can to get to him, while Tommy's been chilling with no thought of his brother. I understand that Tommy is a grown man with a wife and a baby on the way but Joel didn't know that when he left to go find him to make sure he was alright. He just knows that he hasn't heard from his brother.

I imagine when Joel talks to Tommy about his dreams that it's most likely memories of Sarah that he relives; and in a world such as theirs even good dreams have become nightmares for Joel because when he wakes he's instantly reminded that Sarah isn't there and why, which speaks to his line " all I know is when I wake up... I've lost something." Life truly did stop for Joel about the same time his wrist watch stopped.😔 Also, to answer Jane's question, in all honesty I don't think you ever truly do live after losing a child at least not the way you once did.

Lol not a fake or frozen horse. Just a well trained horse. Horses will stop still when the rider falls off. You can see an ear twitch if you look closely. It’s just waiting for it’s next command, basically. Also, lol he did NOT think that might be his daughter, she would be middle age by now. Probably old enough to be Ellies mom. it was just someone that reminded him of her and his pain.

For the horse, one leg bends like that when they’re resting. So it’s a sign they are relaxed and maybe even asleep. They often sleep standing up like that. It actually took me out of the scene a tad as well because there’s no way the horse would be so chill about someone falling off and another leaping right after them. Of course, a realistic horse reaction where it starts suddenly would be dangerous 😅

I think they can't get the horse to stand still for that pan shot so they had to put a CGI horse in. I didn't notice it the first time I watched it bc I was focusing on Joel and Ellie.

I agree about the horse for whom this posture is normal. But I personally was thinking more during the scene that when you're in a situation like Ellie's, time is said to stand still around you, which would explain the horse "freezing" :D

And to answer the original comment here, as someone who's been around horses all my life, you have it backwards, horses will stop and wait if you fall off. A well trained horse will basically "freeze" asap to avoid dragging or trampling the rider. The fact that this was a tv shot and the rider hadn't really tumbled off yet the horse stood still, is actually pretty impressive as far as the horse's training.

Horses can lock 1 leg, all the weight is on the bone, so the other leg can relax and rest. Yup they sleep like that when standing.

joels anger at Tommy is SO well justified. If it wasn't for tommy going awol... Joel would have never even left the QZ. He would have never needed a car.. He went through SO much trouble because he was worried for Tommy. Tess wouldn't have died. And then he gets here, and Tommy doesn't give a shit. Joel is too much of a stoic to say anything in that bar scene but Tommy's decision to go AWOL destroyed the life Joel had.

I'm a huge true crime fan, was watching a show yesterday where the mother of the victim told the killer, you not only killed my baby but me too. At the end of the episode she said she looks put together, but it's all fake. I imagine it's like becoming a zombie, shambling thru life. You go thru the motions, but a part (or all it) of your soul dies. Its heartbreaking. Great reaction as always guys!

I doubt you guys will see this comment since this video was uploaded more than a year ago. But I wanted to offer some additional insight to the final scenes in this episode when Joel gets stabbed, since I havent seen any of the other comments mention it. What happens to Joel here is NOT how it happens in the video game. If I remember correctly, he gets into a scuffle with one of the raiders while inside the building on the 2nd floor, and then crashes through the window and falls to the ground. They show Joels body impaled on a sharp, jagged metal pole that was sticking out of the ground, going all the way through him and sticking out through his gut. Ellie somehow manages to lift him off it and they escape with their lives (barely). I'm willing to bet the reason they changed that scene for the show is because they realized how unrealistic it would be for a character to survive a fall and injury of that severity, and had to dial it wayyy down. Any other antagonist or side character surely would have bled out and died, but Joel is built different lol

This is why this has been the only shooter video game that I like. There are so many video games out there where you can just turn off your feelings and become a killing machine, shooting and killing your way into getting better and better at such violence with no issues, but this game was different. It was created so that you feel remorse for killing, especially the NPCs you don't have to kill. (like most of the dogs) This world is still so far fetched but it to me allows me to feel the way I would feel if this were to really take place. For to many of us, life is worth something and to just kill with no remorse is not in any way desirable.

🤭 IMO you two do more of a number scaring _yourselves_ than the show ever could. Particularly when nothing's happening. 😄 After the 3 months (even before finding *Tommy's* place) *Joel* was clearly more open than he was in the episodes prior. They were actually having trivial conversations. And he gave her a swig of liquor. Before that he would just say, _"shut up," "no"_ and _"go to sleep."_ Their relationship had progressed. *EDIT:* I think it should also be noted, that it is *Joel's* feelings towards *Ellie* that make him beg *Tommy* to take her. Because he knows he can't protect her. He doesn't want to let her down like he did his daughter. *Joel* was absolutely broken up that *Ellie* had to shoot a man. Not just that he couldn't take down that kid, but that *Ellie* had to kill someone because he wasn't good enough or strong enough. 😔

I'll point out that horses wear metal shoes, and temps were in the negatives when that scene was filmed. Horses will stand like that to relieve pressure and rest a limb, but they'll also lift their hooves up because the snow is cold. It does look weird, but it's a fairly common pose for a horse.
