I appreciate you and your team for managing to make it out of the pigeon-hole that is wildlife conservation tv era content. Too often passionate people such as yourself and your team get regulated into the role of “guy with khakis explains snake”, but the podcast helps people realize and trust what your doing. Presenting yourself as a real human with interests and a sense of humor instead of the tv guy who we all assume is reading off of a tightly written tv-dramatic script.

I live in an area (northwestern ontario) where many people get fungal infections from Blastomycosis. It is deadly if not treated in a timely manner. It masks itself as pneumonia and is often treated with antibiotics before its truly diagnosed as a fungal infection. It literally rips the lung tissue to shreds.

The mountain lion is by far the scariest animal on land. They are silent, can leap 40' from a run, 15' from a stop & run at 10 mph for an extended time. Here in the mountains of Colorado, we do not allow kids to walk to school in winter (7am is prime hunting time). The deer herds come to town when it snows, so do the cats. I have an ag canal behind the house & that's a great place to hunt the small critters that use the canal as a road when it's dry. I have had a big cat bed down in the tall grass inside my back fence last summer. We also took pics of tracks & a kill not 10' from my sister's 7 & 8 year old grand daughters' room in Jan 2023. My daughter lives next door & I carry a shotgun while walking between at night. Check out the story on the Denver Bronco player that got a huge cat this past winter that was eating dogs.

My friend and I were travelling home late one night in a Datsun 180b (early nineties) we collided at high speed with a large, striped back lightly coloured dog with a dark black mouth. I have the photo-memory stuck in my head. We pulled over, the front of the car was completely folded in. There was just a tuft of hair stuck in the radiator grill. No sign of the dog and we looked. We were both in shock but corroborated with our version of events. I'm in South Western Australia

As far as washing my house cats goes, I find that all I need to do is keep a hold of the nape of their necks (just like how Momma used to carry them), and as long as I have a grip on them, and it's a nice and sturdy grip, then I get no troubles washing them. As soon as I loosen the grip on the nape they think about escaping, lol. Otherwise I use my left hand to hold the cat and the right for washing and rinsing. I had to buy a nice long hose for the shower head to attach to but using the shower head made quick work of rinsing the kitties off. I wrap each in their own long thick towel and I hand dry them one at a time. Same as washing them. Cats don't like bath time and I only wash them when completely necessary. They're pretty good at keeping themselves clean. So 8 don't often need to step in. We've had a flea outbreak happen from meeting a new friend on occasion but a quick bath usually keeps that in control. Don't imagine getting a grip on a mountain lins nape though would be much help during a wild run in. Lol

I knew some people out around Mt. Pinos in California who would practice drawing handguns and firing right behind their own heads so they could shoot mountain lions in the head if they got grabbed because they would bite the back of the neck. A couple people had been killed by one a few years before in that area so being prepared for it was on everyone’s minds.

A guy named Travis Kauffman from Colorado fought off a juvenile mountain lion and had to end up killing it (by choking it) because it wasnt being scared off by his yelling or trying to be big by flailing his arms around. He felt really bad about ending its life but it was just one of those situations where you have to fight for your life. He note that if its mother had been around, he wouldnt have stood a chance against a full grown lion. pretty lucky to be alive. Biggest take from it was to remain calm if you are in that situation and hopefully use it to your advantage to get out alive.

Brown bears chase polar bears off of kills. You wouldn't think it until you do some research but it's true. A brown bear cub isn't beating a full grown polar bear but if the brown bear is even close to the size of the polar bear, the polar is in trouble and knows it. Its a lot to do with muscle structure and build as well as endurance and overheating issues with the polar on land.

In reference to the mountain lions, I’m from New Hampshire, and apparently mountain lions haven’t been here since 1885. But people say they see them all the time. Curiously nobody can ever get a picture of one. I guess it’s possible though. Not tons of people here. And plenty of unoccupied land. Mountains. Food sources. I just figured someone would have at least killed one in the last 138 years if they found their way back here. There’s enough people running around the woods with guns here for sure.
