Joel's death was too easy. After everything he survived in the 1st game. Clickers, army soldiers, freakin pole in the stomach, and in the end he gets clubbed by a freakin dinggus. Really wish his end was different. Still cant get over the fact and still recovering. I mean we had an entire game to bond with the guy, we played as him and he's the reason this story exist. And now he's gonna. I really hope he reunites with Sarah though

I'm mad as hell, they did Joel hella dirty in this game. I've been waiting so long to see my two favorite characters of all time come together again just to have one of them die by a side character in the first two hours. The writing was so bad on that whole section that it's unbelievable. This whole story would have been better if It evolved around Ellie deciding whether or not to forgive Joel after finding out the decision he took away from her. In all honesty they didn't even need to make a sequel so oh well, you dug your own grave Naughty Dog🤷🏻💀

The thing is that, maybe, in order to make a sequel, they needed Joel to die. We can discuss if the way was proper or not, but a game based on Ellie’s forgiveness wouldn’t have to much to develop or stayed as a action game as the first part. That’s just my opinion. Also, I believe that the second part wasn’t necessary, but fans were looking forward it. I personally like the second part, but I can understand why other don’t

I would much rather have TLOU end the way the first game ended instead of them making another sequel that didn't even need to be made and have a beloved character by many fans die within the first 2 hours and then have Ellie not even kill Abbey at the end because she finally understood forgiveness, just the whole thing was stupid. What if John Wick went after the guy who killed his dog and just let him go at the end? It would be stupid and would piss off a lot of people. I know its just a game but Naughty Dog deserves the feedback they are getting, I absolutely loved Joel and I might've liked the end if us fans got to kill Abbey in the end.

In my case, I like it and the end was okay and emotional, but that’s because is my perspective, maybe if I was in that situation, I would have done the same thing as Ellie. But I know that, besides that point of view, there are people who didn’t like the choice Naughty Dog did for the ending. And it’s understandable. Even I said I partially agree that, maybe, the first game didn’t need a second part, but it was unavoidable due to the success of the said first part. However, I know I won’t change your opinion and that wasn’t even close my objective, it’s okay to have different points of view towards a very controversial game, but I just wanted to clear myself up

No. Joel should have been killed in the very end of the game. They should have opened with Tommy being killed by Abby after being mistaken for Joel, after being separated in the storm, from him. Abby's plan to "capture a scout". Abby torturing Tommy, " what's your name, are you Joel Miller"... And Tommy responding in defiance, "so what if I am." With Joel finding Tommy's dead & tortured body tied to a chair. Then Maria furiously asking Joel to hunt them down & make whoever pay for it with him heading out for Seattle alone leaving a note for Ellie. Gameplay as Joel for a good chunk of the beginning. Then Ellie & Dinah chase after him with Jesse going after all of them when he realizes what's happened. Confronting the Seraphites would be a minor side story in outer Seattle for Joel and then Ellie. No gameplay as Abby, only flashbacks of what happened & why she was searching for Joel. All this gets slowly revealed through Joel's side of the story. Ellie following up in Joel's destructive wake running into more Seraphites on the way. The end chunk of the game should have been Joel being taken prisoner by the WLF when he finally finds where Abby is, but he doesn't reveal his name to them. And you then cut to Ellie overhearing they caught a man, her knowing it's Joel. She makes her way to their base. This entire time the Seraphites are galvanizing forces to attack the WLF base thinking Joel & Ellie were part of the WLF just heading back into the Seattle base. Ellie & Dinah reach the WLF base areas, infiltrate them, and the Seraphite attack happens. Joel convinces the WLF to let him go and he'll help them fight. He's told them his name is Tommy. He runs into & saves Abby from being killed by Seraphites by being strung up and now you play with Abby as a partner for a bit. Cut back to Ellie & Dinah. They get caught by the Seraphites. Jesse finally catches up & saves them from hanging. They are fanatics and are a fully dedicated cult who worships the infected. He tells them the Seraphites have lured a horde into Seattle to destroy the WLF. Ellie says they have to find Joel. And they head into the stadium area. Total chaos happening. Ellie splits up from Dinah & Jesse so they can find a way out & find a vehicle while Ellie searches for Joel. Ellie finally runs into Joel & Abby under the stadium with Ellie shouting "Joel" when she sees him. Abby's eyes go wide & she attacks Joel. Ellie attacks Abby. The red light scenario from the Ellie/Abby theater fight. Jesse & Dinah are trying to secure an escape so they aren't anywhere in this confrontation. All the sudden they hear hundreds of infected & the screams of WLF, and even Seraphites being slaughtered. The horde. Everyone just stops. Joel reasonably says, "we're ALL gonna fucking die here if we don't go NOW." And you play as Joel and lead them outside. Running into Jesse & Dinah who have found a running truck & everyone is getting in right then, even Abby. Right when Joel's about to get in that's when you see the rat king as it breaks through a wall & attacks. The giant amalgamation of infected. It hits Joel and claws at him with all those limbs then throws Joel into a wall & he's hurt, not getting up. Ellie & Abby jump out to kill it and get Joel. You play as Ellie, breaking the monster down but then it grabs them both with its multiple limbs. Jesse is fighting off runners from swarming the car. Then you cut back to playing as Joel slowly getting up and you save both of them & finally kill the beast maybe seeing a box of explosives knocked over as you're in a staging area where equipment is stored. You all jump in the back of the truck & speed away shooting infected the entire time. Next scene is a view from a hill overlooking the remnants of the horde & the destruction of what just happened. They all get out to soak it in. Lot of anger, and crying, and coming to terms, and explaining what led to all this between Abby, Ellie, and Joel. Joel's hugging Ellie and telling her he's so glad she's safe & ok but then he slumps to the ground. Ellie opens his coat only to see his guts hanging out. Hurt by the fight with the rat king. He's dying. He dies in Ellie's arms mirroring the opening to the first game with Joel & Sarah. A bookend scene. His last words are "I love you baby girl" with Ellie crying & screaming "get up Joel please fucking get up." Abby recognizes the same kind of bond she had with her father & her anger dissipates. She leaves & says she's going to find the last of the fireflies hearing about the San Diego groups & asks Ellie when she's walking off, "if I find them and they say they can make a cure, will you be willing to be called on if I come find you?" But no response from Ellie, just a look like she's about to say something as the scene fades to black. Mirroring the end of the first game. Credits roll and we cut to Jackson with Ellie & Maria standing over Tommy & Joel's graves. Joel's song playing. Maria is rubbing her stomach as she's pregnant and we finally know why Joel agreed to go to find those who killed Tommy. Ellie really appreciating what Joel's sacrifice meant as she looks around the town and all the others who Tommy & Joel both helped & saved. Cut in scenes of Joel & Ellie practicing guitar together & smiling. Ellie puts the photo of Joel & Sarah on his grave. Finally understanding why he did what he did at the hospital & being ok with it. The end. Or a part 3?....

My interpretation was he got soft living in Jackson. He was no longer the smuggler who was hyper aware remember how scared he was in the first game when they left the Boston QZ telling Tess “Do I have to remind you what is out there” in Jackson there was no fear or danger so I think it weakened him yet again just my opinion.

You can be attached to Joel all you like but the truth is he was just a man and Ellie made her choices so she has to live with them, just like abby made her choices and has to now live with them. This is a very realistic outcome. They didn't glorify Joel because Joel didn't really deserve it based on his actions in the last game. Ellie wanted to make a cure at the cost of her life and Joel didn't just take that away from her. He took it from everyone for himself. People keep forgetting that Joel did shitty human things but it didn't make him a bad person to the people he cared about. But he did shitty things to other people who were doing shitty things. And the cycle just continues with Ellie doing shitty things to Joel and then the fireflies who just wanted payback for the loss Joel cost them. They absolutely could have killed Ellie and Tommy and Dina and JJ the potato before he got the chance to live. But in exchange another unborn baby died and everyone pretty much who helped Abby with her revenge...

It’s the same for me. But just as you can care for a movie, novel, or tv character, it’s no difference here. This just shows how well the game was written. The near photorealistic graphics and absolutely lifelike motion cap adds to the intensity and realism. Ellie’s broken voice when she says she wants to go to Joel’s house first. Her actions ask she speaks to Dina, how she looks at the ground and then the deep stare with her teary eyes. It’s all very real. This isn’t a normal game.

Joel will always be an important part of her life even after his death and even at the end of part 2 she will still care about him and remember him and still will move on with her life and will it be with Dina and J.J. and will they live together again and if they abandon the farmhouse and move into Jackson and maybe into Joel's house to be closer to everything and still have memories and good memories of Joel and that is her way of forgiving him even after his death or at least that is what fans like me wants to think might have happened.
