Small thing: that last scene with Joel and Ellie was real. In the beginning of the game everyone is asking her if she and him are good. When she is with Dina on patrol she brings up how she was going to ask him if they wanted to watch a movie (like they used to). That was the moment that woke Ellie up from thw blind haze of rage and hate. A lot of this game is is Ellie trying to find purpose again. After losing the ability to save humanity she becomes aimless. When she starts to forgive Joel, her new purpose is to make things right with him. Joel gets killed by Abby, so Ellie's new purpose is to avenge Joel (because she thinks that is what she would want him to do, when he would want the opposite. Since he did everything he did for her so she could live her life). This mirrors Abby, whose purpose was to help save humanity with the Firefly's (Fireflies? Idk what the plural for the group is). Joel kills her dad, and dooms humanity. Abby's new purpose then becomes find and kill Joel. The difference with her and Ellie is Abby does it.... and it fixes nothing. It's not until they start to be selfless, and not focus on blind rage, and revenge do they start to heal. Abby through Lev and Yara. Ellie through her path to accept what Joel did and forgive him, and do what he always wanted for her: live. (Also theory time: i think Ellie already went back to Jackson for Dina and JJ. She doesn't have Dina's bracelet with her in Cali, or when she leaves. In the final scenes she has it on. I think she went to go get the guitar, but decided to leave it there (symbolizing her also letting go of Joel, as the guitar and "Future Days", were her last connections to him). May end up not being true, but it gives me hope.)

I love the fact that you played both of these games back to back. The way I see it, it gives you a lot more clear insight as to how Part 2 takes note on what transpired in Part 1. The ending of the first game hinted that Ellie would be angry with Joel for lying to her about the Fireflies, and Part 2 followed through on that cliffhanger in a believable, cohesive manner. It's obvious that Ellie would be furious with him for essentially taking away her chance of contributing to a cure, hence their last conversation they had with each other at the end of the game. The first game also hinted that Joel's actions at the hospital would have unfavorable consequences, and sure enough, they made those consequences rear their ugly heads. Plus, Joel knew that what he did would catch up with him some time later on, so when he knew he was going to die at the hands of Abby, he made no attempt to reason with her and just told her to get it over with. Folks don't have to like this game's story. If they didn't like it, that's fine. It's their opinion. But to say that it did away with what was good in the first game in terms of storytelling is simply incorrect. Just because they disliked how some of the plot threads were handled, doesn't mean they were bad. It simply means that it didn't follow the traditional standards of storytelling, which in and of itself isn't automatically a bad thing.
@ShadowMan645722 жыл бұрын
The end of the first game "hinted" at nothing; it was an ambiguous ending where his choice wasn't clear cut right or wrong. Part 2 turns it into something wrong and ends up killing him off (like the rest of the male characters in this game) because the game clearly wants points from the modern feminist crowd.

@@hazzerz You're telling me graphics and gameplay don't mean anything? If you just want a good story then go read a book lmao. In order to like the game you need to play with an open mind. The problem is majority of the people that did play it are narrow minded people who always think in a straight line. And they got mad when the game tried to bend this convenient straight line of theirs. Joel's death was always coming to him. That's exactly what death is. It doesn't give you time so you can go out in a heroic way. If you are mad at the game because of Joel's death you are straight up braindead. The fact that you think the gameplay is the same as the first game is proof enough of that fact. Yes his death sucked but letting that get in the way of you and the game is stupid as fuck. The fact that you think the gameplay is the same as the first game is proof enough of the fact that you spent the entire game bitching about Joel's death rather than making an attempt to immersive yourself in grotesque but rich world and story that NaughtyDog wants to tell you. People die shit happens. Every scene in the game was there for a reason. The game tests its players both psychologically and mentally which is something no other game has done. And no I am not talking about just some sad ending that makes you cry for 5 minutes no.. When you are done with the game you are mentally exhausted just like Ellie. Most games make you go "Wow.. what a great game" when the credits start rolling in but that was not the case with the last of us 2. The whole journey is so depressing you sit through the credits feeling numb and not a lot of people like to feel numb. The game was complex but many people mistake its complexity for it being messy. And the ending was depressing but many people mistake it for being bad.

Anyway, I love both of these games, although as a start to finish experience, part 1 was a more enjoyable progression. For me, the moment to moment experience of part 2 dragged on a bit too long. Although I do take into consideration that it takes me way longer to complete a game than what you read as being the average playtime in reviews. Way longer. I think part 2 took me around 55 hours to finish, but by the time the game was over, the whole gameplay experience felt justified and connected. And Abby definitely had some awesome levels to play through, and I’d like to see more of her and Lev’s story, as well as Ellie’s (obviously), in a part 3.

This game was great, I wont deny that. And I didn't hate Abby, with time I started to enjoy playing as her character. What bothered me with this game is the fact that you cannot decide the ending or affect the story. There should have been a choice in the end where you can choose between: Sparing/Killing Abby with difference outcomes depending on the choice: *If you spare Abby, you finally learn compassion and learn that God's greatest gift (yes im religious) is forgiveness. Ellie returns to the farm just in time to prevent Dina from leaving with the baby, and you live as a happy family. *If you kill Abby, you return to Dina and they reconcile and live happy together...for a time. Until Lev hunts them down and manages to kill Dina, leaving Ellie alone with the baby... Thus the evil spiral of revenge has taken another victim and Ellie understands the consequenses of her actions.

This is perfect. Most people were so attached to the legendary status of the first game that any change to the story they had already constructed in their own heads sent them off the deep end. Most people hated this game because they couldn't help their own biases. It's a masterpiece.

The Last of Us was about Love, The Last of Us Part II was about Hatred, so The Last of Us Part III should thematically unite the two... or focus on a new theme that complements the two, probably Forgiveness. Yeah! The next game should focus on Ellie reconciling with Dina and her child. Maybe Dina is killed because Ellie isn’t there and the kid grows up and becomes resentful of Ellie and the final resolution is maybe Ellie dying but being forgiven. Maybe sacrificing herself to cure the outbreak, but that might also be too much like a fairy tale.
@finmalone32604 жыл бұрын
I like that idea. Although, they’d have to do it in a different way because so much of Part II is about Ellie forgiving Joel. Also, I understand why people think that Part I and Part II focus on polar opposites of love and hate, but after a second play through, I think both games are about love and what we might do for the ones we love. Everyone’s hate was justified by their love. I hope they continue on that theme for a third part while addressing a new perspective of it.
@fgdj20004 жыл бұрын
@@finmalone3260 True. Love and hate are actually closely intertwined, even though they seem to be polar opposites. If you are betrayed by someone you love, that can quickly become hatred. Conversely, affirming a romantic comedy cliché that exists for a reason, people who hate each other might do so, because they realize just how similar they are and that realization can also turn into a deep connection, even love, for instance, when two people are attracted to each other, they sometimes tend to argue a lot and downplay this, until they realize they have the hearts for each other.

game was really good. i gave it a 9.5/10. not a masterpiece in my eyes but definitely has a lot of strong moments. i just didn’t really care for abby’s half of the game tbh. it was cool to see her life and how what joel did affected her but i was obviously more interested in Ellie’s side. the first game is my favorite game of all time it’s a 10/10, so a 9.5/10 isn’t so bad.

I think it's a valid point to bring up, that for some of us, Abby's sorry was difficult to engage with. I liked the game overall, but the transition into playing as Abby wasn't the best ever.. I did like her as a character, but yeah, I also was far more interested in Ellie.

A random suggestion took me to this video and ngl i like this review and it’s probably one of the best TloU 2 review i ever watched 👍 I myself love TloU 2. I thought it is a masterpiece with some flaw in the pacing (they can trim a bit some section). It sad though that some people hated TloU 2 without give it enough time to understand the story and the connection with the first game. Most haters just goes nuts about Joel’s dead (like Ellie did, ironic isn’t it?).

No one seems to mention how before the final scene with Ellie and Joel there’s a long black screen with the guitar playing. This is right after Ellie failed to play “Future Days” with two fingers. I thought credits were about to roll. That would’ve been a fucking devastating point to end the game. Glad they didn’t do that tho. Been obsessed with this game since the moment I got back into TLoU universe

The stupidest thing Ive heard is that this Naughty Dog intentionally hates Joel. They use the scene where Manny spits on Joel's body and say this was Druckmann doing this. 😑 Yes, the game CLEARLY hates Joel. Its not like they make his death insanely hard to watch or. Its not like they have flashbacks showing Joel as the best dad ever!

The game is incredible and tbh could be my favorite game ever, the only reason I consider the first one being better is cause it has the multiplayer but can't wait for multiplayer TLOU2. My entire family was standing around watching while I played it, I personally would've structured it differently so it flowed a little better and people would've been more emotional towards both Abby and Ellie
