LMAOO it’s so funny you say that marlene looks like a video game character because the actress is the voice actor and face design for the actual character in the game :)) also what the scientist was saying in the beginning could very well happen, the specific fungi he was referring to can only infect insects (at the moment…), the cordyceps will drain the host of all nutrients and fill its body with spores completely taking over the hosts movement (not their mind-the host is fully conscious they just physically can’t do anything), climb up to the height of 25 centimeters-a zone with precisely the right temperature and humidity in which the fungi can grow, and explodes therefore infecting and spreading the spores and fungi.. nature is wildddd.

There are actually no zombies. They're all alive, the fungus keeps them alive as long as possible, some people just last much longer than others. But when someone is dead they are dead.

That's true of the ant, and it's a zombie. Zombies originally were mind controlled anyway. The dead rising and eating flesh/brains that started to be called zombies after _Night of the Living Dead_ (something they never were in the movie) have a lot in common with what were called ghouls but are kind of their own thing. So all of these things are types of zombies now. (I know the creator says they aren't zombies, but I disagree with him. :) )

​@@HuntingViolets The reason people make the distinction is because nowadays when people think of zombies, they think of reanimated death. So to understand how the infected function (i.e., they won't get back up from severe injury, they can asphyxiate, a corpse lying on the ground won't get back up and attack you) it's helpful to make the distinction between "zombie" and "infected" I know people like to clown on this, but it really is important when understanding the world building. I watched one Let's Play where the chat kept trying to explain to the streamer, but the streamer just kept mocking chat and saying, "They're zombies!" all the while whining and complaining about certain game mechanics involving the infected not making sense... even though the chat kept trying to explain it to him.

fungal infections are indeed on the rise, especially medically resistant ones. this is due to the ongoing sars2 pandemic, which weakens organisms' immune systems, making them more susceptible to all sorts of infections. same reason we've seen a rise in bird flu, measles, scarlet fever, etc. over the past few years. most of these viruses and bacteria are airborne meaning respirators will help so you don't have to live in fear. in the last of us game this is demonstrated by floating spores, and the characters must cover their faces, similar to what we should be doing in real life.

This was a great episode. So far it has my attention. The Sarah death scene no matter video game as well tv series is one of the saddest moments. The cast and crew did a great job in this episode. I'm looking forward to episode 2. I remember being concern that this show wouldn't had done well because most tv shows\movies that are base off of video games never do well. I love that you guys are watching this. ITS SOOOOO VERY FAITHFUL to the game. Just as emotional if not more. Sorry, I honestly don't wanna be a jerk about this, but Pedro is caucasian. "Latino" is a merely an ethnicity. I was born in Chile just like him and I'm white. My parents are white. Yes, there's definitely darker skinned people in Latin America, but that's because of indigenous heritage mixed with the Spaniards, Portuguese, French, and English colonizers.
