Eric Oviedo I’ll admit I was heartbroken at the end but I wouldn’t say part 2 is a bad game, it’s pretty good but it wasn’t a story I was a fan of for these characters, for example if naughty dog made a stand alone game with this story and with different characters then I would of loved it but since they did it on characters that we love already like Joel and Ellie, I wasn’t a really a fan of it but that’s my opinion :)

Selfish, fireflies were going to slaughter a 13 year old girl to study her brain that maybe could lead to a cure. A act that Ellie has no idea that there going to do, didn’t even give her the option to accept it. It she would have been and said she did want to died they probably would have done it anyway. That was a rescue despite the fact he didn’t want her to die. I have never saw that as a bad thing. If she was aware of what was going to happen and he did it anyway, then you might have a argument in my opinion.

in the first game, initially, joel found a voice thingy, talking about how theres people that where like ellie, and, they died without a cure, which is why “ellie was like no other.” Joel didn’t wanna risk killing ellie when multiple had already died with the “cure.” It’s not selfish, he technically didn’t lie until they changed it. They wanted it to have a bigger impact, he just wants to keep her safe, because what if they killed her and didn’t get the cure again? Plus, theres cannibals, And people that like it this way better, i doubt the world would go back to how it was in a snap.

But he only partially lied as the doctor's notes revealed that Ellie wasn't the first immune to be operated on. The previous attempts were failures. Thus Joel saved her life and redeemed her future. This character arc is amazing as Joel failed to save Sara and Tess. This is what everyone should be afraid of the producers messing up.

Though Ellie said he took that right from her, the fireflies didn't even give her a choice because she was unconscious the whole time. They should have given Joel a heroic death later in the game and made Abby playable in the dlc where she ends up saving Lev and Yara and the WLF vs Scars war still takes place.
