after all this time and all the jets that have come since, i still think the phantom is the best looking war plane.

We need to allow and help Japan modernize and update their defensive capabilities. China is gonna be a problem in the years to come and Japan could be a key ally against them. But, they need the hardware.

Like what, the flying brick named F-35?
@e.l.norton3 жыл бұрын
@@tofton1977 I'm not the biggest fan of the aircraft, but the F-35 is more capable than you know. Far more capable. But, yes. Coupled with the new F-15EX, as is the plan for the US, it's a formidable weapons package. The new, block III Super Hornets are also no joke. I know there have been export restrictions, but the F-22 would also be an obvious choice.

@@e.l.norton I'm from Belgium and from my window the F-35 is the biggest scam since US sell the F-104 to the Nato nations (my grandpa flew one and... he crashed in 1973)!

@@tofton1977 The F-35 program has been a major pain in the ass and no doubt got out over its skis. However, it's also the first of its kind and capable of doing things that no other plane in the world had ever done before it. Being the first to do anything and do it well is a system of trial and costly error. And where the development of weapon systems like this used to occur completely in secret, thanks to modern technology, people get GLIMPSES into these processes and the most superficial and often completely misguided understandings of what the capabilities and challenges of developing and bringing technology like this online are, almost in real time. In essence, the sausage is being made in almost full public view, where in the past all we saw was the final product. And, surprise! It's messy. The F-35 IS the single most advanced fighter aircraft in the world. Period. Warts and all. Anyone who would argue otherwise does so from a position of near total ignorance of military aviation and of the threat environment the F-35 was designed to operate in. And, most likely they've never flown anything outside of a video game let alone a fighter plane. Simply put, it's a paradigm changer that is laying the foundation for a new future in combat aircraft. That kind of revolutionary advancement is always fraught with difficulties. Always. But, the benefits it yields will influence the future of fighter aircraft the same way the invention of the jet engine did. And, costs for the program are insane. Yes. But, again...this is building a new future. Is that EVER cheap? And, costs per unit have come way, way down. By comparison, the CH-53 Kilo transport helicopter costs as much as an F-35 does. Some criticisms of the management of the program and of its software development are valid. But, any assertion that the aircraft is a "dog" is invalid and based in pure ignorance.
