le Portugal possede une richesse exceptionnelle de types de bateaux ; une visite au magnifique musée maritime de lisbonne donne parfois l impression que toute l histoire de la construction traditionnelle en europe y a coexisté.

Thanks lot for your tour! These places habe a special aura for me. The old ships fading away ober centuries, glued in the mud- what did they see, what kind of water did they smell and how many feet dif they feel? A Many months i live on a very nice island in the Atlantic ocean: Ile de Noirmoitier south of Nantes. There you find the same neglected ships, fading away over years. At the end there will be only the oak ribs and rusty engines. Due to the tide more and more mud will pile up around the wrecks and small plants start to grow. A rainy day? Better not to visit - the mood could be damaged...😮💨

What an amazing place, and Jaime da Costa is a wonderful man for the great work he does. It's heartbreaking to see such beautiful boats in such a terrible state. I hope most if not all of them can be rescued. As for the format of the videos -- normal is fine by me! Muito obrigado, Teo!

This a very interesting video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and concerns about the boatyard. The Portuguese people are loosing the tradition of making boats and the use of the sea and river
@TheBoatRambler Жыл бұрын
That is very true although here in the Tagus river and estuary there seems to be more traditional boats around than 30 years ago.

@@TheBoatRambler I don't think so. Furthermore. We, the Portuguese, are losing a lot of things related to boats, namely, the technology used in the construction of wooden boats. Do not forget that in times gone by, we had the most advanced technology in the world that allowed us to make discoveries that still affect everyone. Today, people who work with wooden boats can probably be counted on the fingers of one hand.

amazing place, my two cents about 360: Is very interesting to look around BUT because you are moving there is no much time to look all around to see all the interesting bits, and when you describe something, one may be looking to another place and is hard to move fast to see what are you talking about, I super enjoyed your sailing 360 where is easy to just look here and there without much detail and enjoy the ride. For a place like this with so much history and amazing things to see like the hemp in between the boards you may be better using a regular video where you direct the audience's focus where you know the interesting bits are, thanks for the amazing videos.

@@TheBoatRambler oh! I learnt something new thanks. I'm sure you will find the correct mix of 360s and regular videos to get everyone entertained and educated, your English, calm voice, video quality and pace are very enjoyable to watch. It's also nice to see others in your videos (from time to time, like in the camping ones or the random interactions) and get a glimpse of how things are outside the camera (catching you speaking Portuguese is a window outside the video). obrigado!

loved that tour of the yard on a phone i find it fast and easy to pan up down all around if you use two fingers to control the viewing ,the yard needs to be saved its industrial history and culture from generations maybe should be formed into a trust or charity visitors centre which does take lots of money to set up funding from government sources if the owners dont ask they wont get

Alas I can only see it in a warped view which is a shame. I wonder if anyone else is having trouble. I do like the painting on those boats. Also I do prefer normal format as I can't make use of the 360.
@TheBoatRambler Жыл бұрын
Hi Ben! That is very strange as YT identifies the video as 360 automatically there shouldn't be any warp effect whatsoever! When you choose the Image quality do you see a "S" at the end of the image quality setting like 2160"S"4K? On the phone you can't watch it on a Facebook window for example, it needs to be opened on YT directly. the phone also detects it automatically. It's a shame you can't see it in 360 because it's such a nice feature. I find myself trying to pan on regular videos nowadays....
@BensWorkshop Жыл бұрын
@@TheBoatRambler I do not get the S. It's a CODEC thing. KZbin might recognise it, but that doesn't mean it can put the decoding code on my laptop. I wonder if anyone else is have the same problem?

What do you think is the max length of a boat that could be lateen or lug rigged and be still comfortably handled by 1 person if needed?
@TheBoatRambler Жыл бұрын
well....I don't think I can give you a specific size but I can tell you that Bruno goes solo on Princesa many times and it's a 3ton, 9 meter, 45sqm main sail boat. On 15kts sustained winds he thinks twice about going out solo but with a reef on he can do it safely. Remember that these boats have no deep keel nor ballast tho. Of course Bruno has sailed lateen sails for a few years now and he is a very good skipper. Lug sails I don't know...there is no such sails around this area. The Moliceiros boats up north do use Lug sails but I can't say much about them.

Sorry my friend, no offence, the content is interesting but the 360 video stands in the way. No extra value as well as bad quality images for what could have been shot a lot better with a normal camera. Keep on going, I like what you are showing us from Portugal.

@benalla39 Жыл бұрын
@@TheBoatRambler I first noticed it in the graveyard when I couldn't hear your words over the music, but in fact I think the 360 format is close to sensory overload already and adding any music on top is just distracting me from navigating, watching and listening all at the same time. Maybe if I had some hours up on the format I would feel differently?

@@benalla39 You are right about the graveyard bit in particular. There was some wind noise so I activated the "Voice isolation" feature at 50'%. it is supposed to cut by 50% all the surrounding noise but it sometimes doesn't work too well and the voice seems to be affected too. @@TheBoatRambler Hi Again Teo. Also he guided tour format in 360 makes me feel a bit like the dumb kid in the class who never knows where they should be paying attention. I get my attention drawn to something that isn't what you are looking at, which is the point of 360 and then I hear you saying "over there", realise you are probably pointing at something even though I cant see you, and scrabble around trying to find you in frame, but of course sometimes I"m not fast enough and I miss whatever it was. If I was really with you I would be in your three dimensional headspace and have audible cues to where you were and where you were pointing and I would have no learning curve for how to swivel my head to where you are pointing. in 360 video without having spent time to master the navigation, it makes me feel like a klutz. It worked much better on the skiff with no music. That felt like I was really there.

Very interesting to see this yard. When I have time to watch this again I will pause the video for more interesting boats and then swivel around… and one thing more, this 360 format allows viewer to look ’beyond the screen’ - I’ve watched some videos by other people where something interesting is just on the left or right of screen… also a bit more details of boats, perhaps you could get Jaime to tell a bit about all this. Not sure if YT translation works from Portuguese to English if needed. Other thing: here in Finland there are two or three schools that teach boatbuilding (mostly though pensioned codgers that want to build a retirement boat…) - aren’t there any in Portugal? It’s such a shame that wooden boatbuilding skills are lost….
