really enjoyed this short film. my grandfather Thomas Byrne worked on this railway at some point. I know he was an iron plate layer for a while in glasgow. He was said to have been a very strong man, snatching one end of train track while rest of gang got their fingers under it to lift. He returned to killamuck, where he was born, and worked on the forestry. He died in england in 1957. thanks. Jim Bartholomew

A most enjoyable film. I sincerely hope that more of this nature can be made. Shipping, fishing and harbours could be suitable subjects before people forget or pass on, or the harbours are all turned into marinas! There are also many great Irish characters that a similar documentary could present. One such is the late Noble Ruddock from Bandon, Co. Cork. He was the Chief Mechanical Supervisor for Irish Lifeboats (RNLI) and also the great-grandson of the original Ruddocks Boatbuilders, Bandon.

Lovely little film - very interesting. The train shown at 1.46, though, is on the Great Northern Railway, probably in Fermanagh. The steam trains shown at 7.51 are in the USA!
