I sang this with my high school choir in 2000. I didn't realize how much I love this song until 20 years later. So very beautiful. Perfect music for the biblical text.

He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. 4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

Joyous choir, beautiful setting. Looked up the text , found the "last words of David," as related by Samuel (1 Sam. 23): -~- The "Last Words of David": 1st book of Samuel, chapter 23 23:1. Now these are David's last words. David the son of Isai said: The man to whom it was appointed concerning the Christ of the God of Jacob, the excellent psalmist of Israel said: 23:2. The spirit of the Lord hath spoken by me and his word by my tongue. 23:3. The God of Israel said to me, the strong one of Israel spoke, the ruler of men, the just ruler in the fear of God. 23:4. As the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, shineth in the morning without clouds, and as the grass springeth out of the earth by rain. As the light, etc. . .So shall be the kingdom of Christ.

Much better alleluia than his famours"Alleluia", and arguably his best short choral piece.

Such a beautiful song-- one of my favorites. I love to listen to the MTC sing, but watching is a different issue: what a bunch of stone-faces! How can you sing those words without having SOMETHING register on your face??? Also, if you want to hear REAL majesty, try listening to the TTBB arrangement. The depth of that sound is glorious!

they need to open their freakin mouths when they sing

It takes an expert (being facetious here) for someone to criticize the MTC.

A big huge wide open mouth for most amateurs, which this wonderful choir is made up of mostly amateurs--people that love to sing but are not professional trained singers, will equal very closed throat space. They would actually lose sound.
