It would be so much easier to paint the beams before installing them to the ceiling. I dont understand the thinking of current process.

Somewhere Joanna Gaines is drooling. Also, after the fitting, it should have been taken down, connected, sanded, and stained, then re-attached. Overall, I think it works.

I hope this doesn't ruin anyone's day, it's my opinion that they don't look good. I personally would want a real beam out of my living room. Why build a fake one?
@matchesmalone79
@matchesmalone79 Жыл бұрын
So redo the whole roof to get to the framing and spent tens of thousands of dollars just to get the same look? Do you realize a "real" beam would be part of the main framing of the house and roof structure? If you mean, "why not use a solid piece of lumbar?" The answer is cost and weight. If it's just for looks, it would be pointless anyway. This is exactly how it's done in all the modern mcmansions you see across the country. Stick built homes made to look like timber frame.

If you would have taken and sanded the edges where the wood was going to meet and then fill them in with wood putty. It would have blended them better the putty would have been able to actually fill into the scenes

Our family room had three different colors of genuine leather furniture. It was difficult to find yet another color to cover the cornice above the shades and drapes. Additionally there is recessed lighting behind the cornice. I used suede Main body of cornice) and aniline(trim on cornice, it is the shiny type of leather)in a single color. The texture of the leather created a subtle difference in color that matched perfectly the colors in the furniture. It was the finishing touch that tied the room together.

With the beams, there should have been a 3rd, or a crossbeam. The two she put up, and in the locations they are, just don't look balanced or even. An odd number (almost) always looks better in art & decor. With the valance, just get a thin piece of wood trim - what a waste of time & materials!

Faux wood BEAM. The adjective faux is referring to the TWO WORD PHRASE "Wood Beam." It is a wooden plank etc but NOT a "beam." They also make "Faux Styrofoam Beams." Do you think that means the styrofoam is fake?😂 Hope😅 that helps! *Edited for typo...

Correct and easiest thing would have been to use 2 single 4x4s, rather than 6 2x4s. Stain on ground, mount 1 board to ceiling. NOT 3 to ea other and then the ceiling, then stain. Literally made this as hard as possible and janky. But u got a view n comment outta me so guess it's a win
@oslamckercher2167
@oslamckercher2167 Жыл бұрын
She didn't use six 2x4s. She used two 2x4 [ETA: that should be 1x4] and four 1x3. Even if she had used two actual solid pieces of wood (4x4) as you suggest (which she didn't due to weight), she would still have the seam to deal with.
@40ozFatality
@40ozFatality Жыл бұрын
She used 1x on all sides... two 1x3 and one 1x4. This is done to keep down the weight that solid wood would bring to the ceiling. The correct way to do it would have been 45° bevels for the corners instead of just butting the boards. Also that butt joint in the middle could have been worked better and the entire thing could have been finished on the ground.... I cringed when I saw her burn the crown with that oscillating saw. Twice.

@themykil

Fire hazard? The wood? Like what’s in the walls already? Or throughout the rest of every home? The stain like what’s on cabinets or furniture in almost every home? Did I miss something? If there’s any bad advice here, it’s advising someone to put toggle bolts in a ceiling, little risky. Mitering where wood meets helps blend well and using wood glue mixed with the sawdust created from the wood you’re using makes a better filler than putty. Putty turns it into a paint project
