The Latest Evidence on Vitamin K and a New EBB Article Update!

In this episode, I am joined by Evidence Based Birth® research editor Anna Bertone to explore the updates we’ve made to the EBB Signature Article on Vitamin K.
Anna received her Master’s in public health at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and her Bachelor’s from East Carolina University. She currently lives in Huntsville, Alabama. Anna joined EBB as our research editor in 2016, and she works diligently on helping me update our research articles and classes that we teach, as well as helping to draft new articles. Anna also corresponds with investigators in the childbirth research field as coordinator of our peer review process. I asked her to help me update the Vitamin K article, originally published in 2014, and she started diving into the research into the fall of 2018. She has been poring over all the latest studies on Vitamin K, and today we discuss what she’s found!

There needs to be a study on the consumption of K2 from meat because K1 and the synthetic form do not absorb as well and might not pass to the breast milk as well. There might be something to that. Not saying it will make a difference because maybe this is how it's supposed to be but still. Are there studies done showing the later outcomes of children who didn't get Vitamin K vs children who did? Is there immune systems better for example ?

Is there a list of the *FULL* contents of the shot. Any adjuvants we need to know about?

regular vitamin K shot: Synthetic vitamin K (Phytonadione) Polyoxyethylated fatty acid derivative (derived from castor oil) Dextrose Monohydrate (glucose) Water Benzyl alcohol Hydrochloric acid ingredients of the “preservative-free” shot: Synthetic vitamin K (Phytonadione) Polysorbate 80 Propylene glycol Sodium acetate anhydrous Glacial acetic acid (vinegar)

@@ashjankins960And there are 2-3 brands so they may each vary some. Important to note that polysorbate 80 is a very concerning ingredient. Not sure why that’s called preservative free when it clearly contains preservatives. Very misleading

FDA has an insert with every shot so I’d recommend checking the fda website

@@jennachampion3590One would not want to use the FDA drug information as it’s usually incomplete &/or biased. Instead, go directly to the drug manufacturer. Their package inserts (for drugs THEY make) will contain all the ingredients and the data on the trials- if there were any. Meaning potential side effects are listed as well as contraindications. The minimal safety studies will be listed too.

Vitamin k shot has aluminum in it, listed on the package insert, with a warning that it can be neurotoxic. Aluminum is a heavy metal and heavy metals are known neurotoxins. childrenshealthdefense.org/wp-content/uploads/02-12-20-Pfizer-Hospira-Vitamin-K-shot-aluminum.pdf

Thank you so much for this. My wife and I are tossing back and forth on the shot versus the drops. We purchased the Biotics formula you mentioned ahead of hearing this podcast. We are considering the Danish Protocol. Why exactly did it change? Is it because the drops are no longer available?
