That is very useful. But I don't understand why, when you put a drill chuck in there, what keeps the drill chuck from spinning. I understand why the spindle doesn't spin. It has a slot and key keeping it from spinning. But what keeps the drill chuck from spinning when it's inserted?

Hi Sam. It's a combination of the angle of the taper and the force applied. The Morse taper angle is designed to hold the chuck that's why you need a drift to remove a Morse taper chuck or drill from a drill press..If you don't force the chuck into the taper it won't lock and when you drill it will spin. But once locked and the drill pressure is applied this puts more force pushing the chuck into the taper and prevents the drill from spinning. If the drilling force is more that the chuck holding force then the chuck will spin.

@@enotsengineering How do you remove a stuck Morse taper? The arbor that I have doesn't have a tang and now won't pop out. I tried pushing the drill chuck with a spacer but it popped the drill chuck off the jacob's taper instead.
