Please continue with the handmaids tale recaps. New girl mommy here and I just finished watching it and had sooo many thoughts! I think it’s a cautionary tale on what can happen when society becomes complacent. The cult was able to take over one small step at a time where society choose not to get involved. Then within the new society I think its about finding your voice and using it to protect the future of the next generation. June evolves into a major badass

Listening to two Americans talk about Handmaids Tale and not know who Margaret Atwood is was so surprising! Lol she is a Canadian literary institution. Most Canadians have had to read the Handmaids Tale at some point in their life. It is (or was?) part of Grade 12 curriculum in a lot of provinces. It is definitely a commentary on Women’s reproductive rights, but also the corruption of power and the unequal distribution of rights and freedoms in general. You are right that everything that happens in the book is based on historical events... it’s also based on the fact that history repeats itself... the release of the TV adaptation was eerily timely with the conflicts around women’s rights that blew up in the States around the same time....

I think also that Alex was thinking more long-term (putting in only 6 more months and then have the IP) whereas Sophia seemed like she was more ready to leave the IP and start making huge money RN...maybe start more with 50/50 as Alex still asserts that she startedCHD. . I think Alex was in the right but I totally get why Sophia did what she did. She got mad and reacted and I bet she’s not too happy with herself right now.

The county where my gold mine is located just reported its first case of China Virus. We have many counties in CA with hardly any cases of virus. I mean like 1-4 cases. My fav restaurant in town reopened over the weekend. I wish you freedom. You might like northern Nevada. Few taxes and fees and they are low.

Re: handmaids tale. Not a cult! Not a choice to join or not. My theory anyways- I only got midway through season 2 before the pit got too deep, maybe more story line was revealed. Some disaster happened that messed up the world and clearly reproduction. (Those people digging in the dirt and dying from it) The most rich and powerful take over the government in the US and start this f*d up handmaids system! That’s why not all men get to be rapists and people try to flee to Canada. It’s a commentary on what TOTALLY could happen with our messed up government. I look at the COVID quarantine differently because of handmaids tale. 👀

Claudia I’m telling you, just stop watching Handmaids Tale now. It only gets worse and season 2 is so fucking gut wrenching and inhumane. Season 1 is interesting and you wanna see what happens but by season 2 you will be a basket case.
