part twenty of 'the leaf' a ratty roadster
I want to build a 1930's super reliable daily driver, I have a 1936 Austin 12 rolling frame , a 1927 to 1933 Lea Francis roadster dicky body and radiator and for power a 1800 cc Isuzu petrol engine with a 5 speed gearbox..hopefully this will be a very straight forward build and with luck shouldn't take too long, I will be documenting what this costs as we go along but needless to say I will be using INGENUITY OVER BUCKS....
this week...fit the wheel bearings , shock mounts...my [alAdy comes and does a proper job on the welding ..and I go to beaulieu spring auto jumble and bag some bargains...

I love that little shop. I hope to have one of my own sometime soon. I found a horizontal mill but it is missing the work table. I am still going to build that cast aluminum one like that guy in Brazil made. Just incredible. We all need a machine shop so we can make the parts for our 100 year+ old cars we work with...I will be starting my channel soon...That was some awesome welding. That takes time ands patience to accomplish that beautiful job....

I used to do Beaulieu but you know what ruined it? Brexit. We used to get loads over from all over Europe but now they're just not coming. I'm thinking about doing the big one in September this year though as I do miss it.

You should put a sign over the garage Oak Swamp Autoworks. Or a new Tee perhaps? Super cool idea, retrofit an old fuel pump into a fridge. Should be pretty easy, and be really cool, no pun intended!

Bryan - when I was a school boy back in the 1970's our metal work teacher, Mr Giles, told us that if you bang two hammer heads together, because they are of equal hardness, a chip could fly off faster than a speeding bullet! Ever heard of that? I know you're not much into protective equipment but some eye protection might be a good idea. The leaf is looking pretty cool! Nice tunes Mr Hammond. Cheers John.

Glad your fuel tank came together in the end. Not an easy job. A highly entertaining episode, though the quick shot of another blokes "butt cheeks" slightly ruined my breakfast!. Some trick welding from your colleague. Not easy even in a clean environment, but welding old metal outside to that standard takes skill.

Hi 8Bryan another great show, i used to live in Chandlers ford up until 1970 then went out as a £10 Pome to Australia. I was wondering how the law is in regards to getting the cars MOT everything here has to be engineered . I have just removed the back of my Nissan patrol and replaced it with a aluminium canopy. But have to jump through hoops to get it engineered.
