What happened is what happens at pretty much all award shows. Anyone who’s followed any traditional sports knows this is typically how things go. Usually, the team that wins the big trophy/trophies of the season also claim a bunch of end of season awards too (yes, even if they weren’t the best team throughout the whole year). Nothing abnormal about it. There’s absolutely good arguments for saying that Gen.G or BLG should’ve been team of the year, but ultimately, they both showed up to worlds and they both still fell to T1 when it mattered most and that is a totally legitimate reason to vote for T1. It is also a valid perspective. Often pundits in traditional sports media say winning matters and I don’t see how it’s different in this case. In the end, it’s all about how you value things.

Some people value winning the biggest trophy and being the most clutch player in doing so (while beating the two other team of the year candidates) higher than anything else which is a completely legitimate perspective. Looking across the whole year is also a completely legitimate perspective but it ultimately comes down to what you value. That's why this outrage is completely pointless. By all means, make your own ''factual'' awards show and see how people will still not like that outcome. It literally doesn't matter how you spin it.

Perkz had 2 years as a midlaner in EU, where yes he was good, but he also had a lot of failures in those 2 years. Also the midlane pool was a lot worse, we are talking about Ryu and Febiven being his only competition in 2016. As an AD, he was never the best. And his time there was also insanely short. Perkz had 4 good years in Europe, where in 2 of them he played a role he didnt like and also wasn't good at for Spring 19 and Summer 20. It is legit not CLEAR AS DAY. You aren't reasonable if you think that to be the case.

we don't need to defend caedrel's actions he made a mistake, let's move on and not redcon this crap. It is fine to have discussion, this does happen in awards where if two competitors or sometimes two teamates take votes from each other it can leave the potential the for a third party to squeak by. The optics were terrible coming out the day after basically saying it didnt work the way he wanted it to, you can tweak the format and the weight next year. the problem is he miscalculated or greeded for the fan/community engagement, either entirely remove the fan vote, or be ok that sheningans will happen. you can't have your cake and eat it too. 70-30 can be more than a a fine allocations it also depends how much credit is given for 1,2,3,4 etc. if 1 is higher waited than the other places so 1st counts for 7 points, 2nd is 5 points, 3rd is 3 points, and 1 point for 4th if faker is racking up abunch of 2nd and 3rd place votes they dont mean as much as the 1st place votes for chovy or bin. even if faker wins 1st for fan vote he gets 7 points at 30% weight, as say the agregarate for chovy on the panel is 1 he gets 7 points at 70% weight. like you guys admitted someone on the panel voted for faker had to be 2-3 on some panelist lists

From my understanding only 15% voted for faker and T1 the outrage stems from caedral always trying to appease everyone and never taking a side. He came out and said that Faker shouldn't have won despite only 15% of the community voted for faker, so his panel thought he should've won. It also didnt help that his mods on his subreddit were locking threads everytime someone was trying to disccuss the situation. I dont care about these awards as an LCK, T1 and Faker fan. But if I did I would say that I think its disingenuous to say that Chovy should've won. I feel like when its your time to carry and you dont it deducts points. I also think chovy should also get deducted points because monte has said that chovy does the shot calling but against Flyquest and T1 at worlds and even HLE it looked like Gen G had 0 shot calling so I would put more blame on Chovy if he is supposed to be the one calling the shots. I think by looking at performance all year I'd say you gotta give it to Bin at MSI T1 had a 2.5k gold lead against BLG in Game 5 and Bin singlehandedly dragged the game back for his team. Even in finals he killed the omega fed Gumayusi almost winning BLG the cup. I think faker comes in 2nd I think the way he won worlds was absolutely bonkers I never seen chovy carry a game like that agaisnt a caliber team like BLG in the spot T1 was in Game 4 and 5 in an elimination game at a high stakes tournament in my life and I been following him since Griffin was in challengers and fielding Rather as their mid before Chovy debut in 2018.

The why is it called the player OF THE YEAR award and not the world's MVP or Worlds finals MVP? It's specifically to honor the player who was the best for the most time over the entire year. Chovy was the best in spring, the best at MSI, the best in summer and very good (but not the best) at worlds. Faker was second to third in Spring, around 4th to 5th at MSI, not even top 10 in summer, top 4-5 at worlds overall and top 2 in finals. That means that over the entirety of the year Chovy, Knight and Bin were better than Faker, meaning that he can by definition NOT be the player of THE YEAR.

In my opinion LCK and LPL playoffs are still way harder to win then worlds, worlds is a joke tournament let's be honest, just like in Champions League football the swiss system sucks and the results of the swiss games legit don't matter look at LNG and TOP this year and the worst thing about the tournament is that you are on one patch for a month. Not to mention that RIOT always makes big changes before worlds so it invalidates the champion of each region, so you have been playing Tristana and Corki the whole split for almost 3 months and you won on it, congrats. You will not be able to play those champions that got you there at THE WORLD FUCKING CHAMPIONSHIP because Riot decided its enough of that, let's completely change the game for at least 2 roles. Worlds is honestly like a shit anime tournament arc.

The confident players are seen as the villain bc people wanna see them crash and burn to eat their words, even if theyre really good. It's why people hated Doublelift at his peak while loving players like Bjergsen and Sneaky.
