The Leatherworker's head knife

A brief explaination and demonstration of the advantages of using this wonderful tool. As well as showing you how to use a head knife, I will also be demonstrating how to keep the knife razor sharp.

It's the little skills, like how to sharpen tools, that need to be passed on before they are lost forever. I learned this from an old leather worker, now I've passed it on and that makes me feel more hopeful. :)

Thanks. The most important thing to remember is to store the knife properly. I now hang it between two pegs on the wall. Every time I have cut myself with this knife it's because it was either loose on a bench or in a drawer and I was looking for something else. A leather sheath also helps reduce the chance of injury. It has one of those now too. :)

I haven't gotten one yet, but I am getting more serious and thinking of maybe selling items. I saw and awesome Damascus head knife at Tandy last time I was there. I might try to hint I want it for my birthday in November.

They are all much of a muchness. I use a course emery paste made by BolPol. My tin is quite old now, but still useable. Just google BolPol Emery paste and you should be good to go. 😀
