Thank you Brother Nouman for the beautiful and educative lecture, but I think you overlooked the most important legacy that our father Ibrahim (as) left us with and that is that of breaking away from traditions of following our fathers and forefathers. Our father Ibrahim was a teenager when he realized that his community was doing the wrong thing worshipping idols which could not hear, speak or help themselves leave a side helping others. If it was any other youth including me in that matter I would not have bothered and why should I when my father is rich and influential being the head priest of the pagan religion of the time. Logic dictates that I would have followed the ways of my father and perhaps inherit priesthood after him and get all the worldly wealth and prestige. But instead Ibrahim went in search of the true God the one who created the heavens and the Earth and with the help of Allah the true God the Creator he found Him and when he did he did his best to educate his people beginning with his father but none would listen to him and instead wanted to burn him in the fire for blasphemy against their gods and from then all his life was trials and tribulations which is Allah's way of testing his beloved slaves' eemaan which earned him the favour of Allah personally choosing him as Khalil a friend and an Imam (a role model for the rest of humanity)

And strive for Allah with the striving due to Him. He has chosen you and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty. [It is] the religion of your father, Abraham. Allah named you "Muslims" before [in former scriptures] and in this [revelation] that the Messenger may be a witness over you and you may be witnesses over the people. So establish prayer and give zakah and hold fast to Allah . He is your protector; and excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper.(Qur´an 22:78)

Assalam alaykoum wa rahmatou Allah At the very beginning of the lecture, brother Nouman read the verses 124 to 126 of surat Al-baqarah. Later, he commented on the following ones.

Amazing! Masha'Allah. I love this lecture, and I especially love the references regarding Ibrahim and Yacoub's parenting. Reminding me about how Yacoub dealt with his sons' actions is eyeopening. Now I feel ashamed for being so harsh on my son for arguing with me or bullying his brothers. I used to think I was too soft on my teens, and this was going to spoil them, now I see I am too harsh on them and need to forgive their small infractions and advise them softly rather than yelling.

As a person who has witnessed a lot of abuse to children from parents for reasons that are not deserving of discipline, i thank you for not being arogant and blaming the children alone for what they do. Muslim or NonMuslim, parents need to understand that they CAN make mistakes. And that their children CAN be right. The journey of a parent should be to make their children better than they were, not thwart the child's grow with your ego. Asalamu alaikum.

And not arguing back with his father, (my behaviour is the standard), would also benefit him. Being more patient and respectful toward my husband would provide for him a good example of how to interact with family members. I think in my rush to be a better parent, I have lost some of my objectivity and my natural empathy for his stage of growth. And modifying my shortcomings will help him to see that everyone has difficulty in some areas, but everyone can improve themselves with effort.
