Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a large forest full of trees, flowers, animals and elves...
All summer elves and animals had played, laughed and eaten together in the shade of the big trees, but now the heat was ending, a cold breeze could be felt more and more often coming down from the mountains and the sun went to sleep earlier and earlier.
Everyone was getting ready for winter: the elves were gathering wood and putting supplies in the pantry, some animals were preparing their dens and food for hibernation, some birds were starting to gather to leave for Africa, where even in winter it is warm and you can find those good flies and mosquitoes that fill your belly.
They were all busy with their preparations, but they often thought about winter, when they would not be able to play together and would be left alone, each in their own little house.
The elves Timothy, the most playful of all, were very sad, but thinking about it, he had the idea of ​​having a big farewell party where they could all dance and sing together for the last time.
He told the other elves about it and they all seemed to agree; they decided to decorate the trees by coloring their leaves in a thousand colors. But someone was still undecided, he was afraid that the trees would get angry, they were always so serious, they controlled everything from the top of their branches and it seemed like they never laughed.
But Timothy was determined and said: “Let’s color the leaves at night, so the trees won’t notice anything and in the evening we’ll repaint everything green.”
So that night all the elves climbed up onto the branches and colored the leaves in many colors: yellow, orange, red, brown, light, dark and they left some green. In the morning, when the sun lit up the forest, the spectacle was wonderful, even the trees were speechless.
The party lasted all day and everyone had a lot of fun. In the evening the elves told the trees that they were ready to repaint the leaves green like before. But the big chestnut tree said: “Please leave us this colorful, we had a lot of fun at the party too and we want to stay this colorful for a little longer before we lose our leaves for the winter.”
Since that day, every autumn the elves color the leaves of the trees to dress the forest for the holidays before the arrival of winter.
