What I love about the Pai Sho sequence with Bolin and Asami is that it's clearly in response to fans wanting to know the rules of the game themselves. The rulebook's 'different variations' explanation and Korra's refusal to set standardized rules is the show's way of saying: 'just have fun with it' There are actually fanmade Pai Sho boards and tile sets complete with different sets of rules you can find online.

I love a well-constructed TEAM of villains, and the only contenders in the Avatar-verse (at least in the cartoons so don’t at me if supplemental material has them) are Azula’s trio in ATLA; I don’t count Unalaq and his children because they don’t work as a unit, or Amon’s minions because they’re all just… an organisation. But the Red Lotus have such a nuanced dynamic that sticks out, each of the four are strong personalities with distinct relationships with respective individual. Enter at your own risk*** So, if you look deeper into the lore, you'll see that every new Avatar has resolved the previous Avatar's mistakes or biggest regrets. Aang ended the war that Roku failed to prevent. Korra brought back the Air Benders that Aang failed to protect. There's more stuff from previous Avatars but I don't want to spoil it for you until you read the novels (they're good! Both Kyoshi's and Yangchen's!). And between threatening Fire Lord Zoryu and extending her lifespan unnaturally for so long, she did a lot of damage to the reputation of the Avatar in the Fire Nation when it came to the royal family and also for the masses, who had been denied their own Fire Nation Avatar for well over a century longer than usual and were probably wondering when the HELL was Kyoshi going to die so that they could have their own turn in the cycle; causing problems for Avatar Roku in his own lifetime that no other Fire Avatar on record had to deal with.

It's a nice thought, in spite many didn't like it; although we never got a real explanation of how that connection works. I see three possible ways: -Their spirits are tied to this world, and they never really spiritually rest (which sounds like torture). -Raava makes some sort of copy of the Avatar experiences and has that as in quick access (which sounds reasonable: the whole spirit rests, and only selected moments get invoked for wisdom) -Raava has a quick dial up to past Avatar, and only bothers them when needed (they are resting; but available for free consultation).

Yes we love these characters but aang getting advice from these people made sense cause their worlds were so similar. I don't think Wan would be able to comprehend the problems that occur in the modern world. While I hope some method is found to restore the Avatar's full history, the past lives aren't other spirits to reconnect with. The past Avatars were just the *memories* of this one person's individual lives. Raava allowed the Avatar to retain the information everyone else presumably loses when they're reincarnated. I'm thinking the Tree of Time and the Cosmic Energy of the Universe thing we've seen in AtLA and Korra will be the answer, somehow. I'm also hoping the next Avatar will figure it out. Like has been pointed out in some other comments, there's a pattern of the Avatar fixing what they messed up or couldn't fix in their prior life.

37:50 Zaheer is VERY enlightened. Misguided, but enlightened.

Season 3's villains are on another level. I like Amon, but these guys stand out in a big way.
