Greatest running back ever! He could run, block, and out of the backfield was a great receiver. Injuries hobbled him in year three, and the doctors in those days could not do much to repair loose cartilage and such. Larry Brown should be in the Hall of Fame. Compare his numbers to Jim Brown first five years.

Larry Brown's last best game was in the 1973 playoff game against the Vikings, which was the last time he ran for over 100 yards. The next season, he was hurt in an early game against the Giants, and was never the same running back again. The following season, 1975, Brown was moved to fullback and blocked for rookie Mike Thomas, who was used up and burned out by George Allen just like Brown was.

Larry last big game was against the Vikings in 1975. Ripped off a 50 yard run that saved the game.

Larry Brown was great. There were times, however, when they worked him too hard. I remember one game (during that time in which the offense was more focused on a non-pass attack) when they kept running him play after play, to the point to where the medical attendants had to give him smelling salts, and then the coaching staff continued to call plays with him running the ball. I really felt bad for him.

George Allen believed that a halfback should run the ball, and a fullback should block...so Charlie Harraway, Brown's backfield partner, was used almost exclusively as a blocking back. Also, Billy Kilmer was Allen's preferred quarterback over Sonny Jurgensen (because Jurgensen was too much of a free spirit for Allen's taste) and Kilmer, not being the pure passer that Jurgensen was, NEEDED Larry Brown to move the Redskins offense. So, that's why Brown was run into the ground, and was eventually used up and burned out.
