Fun little trivia, any time they had Grog emit a loud belch in this series, they were actually made by recording Laura (Vex) and Ashley (Pike). The whole cast each tried to drink lots of root beer and record their belches, but none were as loud and impressive at Laura and Ashley's. Great reaction, as always.

The Titanstone Knuckles are connected to the Stormlord - the same god who Earthbreaker Groon serves. So (now that he knows where his strength comes from) Grog is a much more worthy wielder of them than Kevdak.

Fun fact: in the original campaign, the party knew this fight was gonna be so difficult they brought in Wil Wheaton (from Geek & Sundry, who used to host Critical Role) to touch all of Matt Mercer's stuff, because Wil bears the infamous "Wil Wheaton Dice Curse": he can't roll well. He gets an unnatural amount of nat 1's, he only ever rolls higher than 10 once every blue moon, so they were hoping some of his bad luck would rub off and affect Matt during the fight. Clearly worked

It’s not just that he rolls low, he rolls wrong. He rolled a lot of high numbers in the Paranoia game, where you want to roll low. There is a hilarious moment of him celebrating rolling a 19 as his first roll before realizing that he rolls the equivalent of a 2 in D&D.

Sam Riegel is a musical chameleon. The variety of genres he has sung in this season, from country (shoutout Ashley Johnson) to metal to a freaking Irish song. Some of us critters were disappointed that Sam wouldn't be able to do a lot of the songs Scanlan sung in the original campaign (mainly because they were parodies of a lot of real life songs from pop to rap) but we keep getting Sam Riegel original songs + friends so its barely even noticeable 😂😂

I think the paw prints may have been a reference to Galdric, Purvan Suul's dire wolf companion. Galdric guards the forests around Whitestone as was his charge, and as of the publication of the Tal Dorei campaign setting book, he was elevated as a lesser idol by the Raven Queen and is an eligible warlock patron for player characters.

YEEEEAAAHH, I have been waiting for this react since I found your channel. This fight in the Live Play was BRUTAL. Several of them were scrapping the bottom of the health pool. Grog had 1 point when he was dropped. He passed out right after the hit. He hit with a Critical Hit. That double the damage and that was just enough to kill Kevdak.

Yes Sam is extremely talented. As a child he was Gavroche in the Les Mis plays, so he's always been singing When we meet Kaylie her outfit complements Scanlans completely, even the pink hair matching his beret🔥

From what I recall, Matt would tend to keep name lists per specific species (formerly called races) of the PHB (Player's HandBook) for random NPC, either that or straight up improvise some on the spot and quickly note them down somewhere for when the players ask about "that one guy we crossed on our way out the tavern 2 months ago". Also, we're now back and synced-up with Grog's ... physical issue. Funnily, the initial encounter with Wilhand from Grog's old Herd days was more or less TV original. That used to be old character backstory info part of a reel they'd play during intermission with everyone's short backstories.

the attempt at single combat, the call to VM, the pokeball tactic and the final blow... "At dawn we plan," "We're all cows..." all straight out of the stream. Kaylie's big reveal too, just without the nudity and bondage. Grog never lost his strength, but he wanted to keep Craven Edge specifically for this fight. Knew he'd hulk back out when he figured where his strength came from; a little too literal for my taste, but for the sake of the visual medium - and the jokes - I get it.

Sam and Travis have said the Grog strength thing wasn't a visual medium or jokes thing. It was because they knew they would run into a situation of death being trivialized if they continued with another death after the trouble that there was with Vex.

The death thing and the strength thing aren't related, in my mind. Grog's death only altered *his* story, not the overall plot, and they provided alternate motivation for getting rid of Craven Edge. Setting aside the fact that Grog wanted to keep it for the Kevdak fight, my issue is that they *literally* took his strength away, and it was blatently obvious when he'd get it back.

There's so many goddamned names in this show.”* Out of necessity. When Matt dared to have two unrelated NPCs, both with the first name "Ira" - in two different campaigns, on two different _continents_ - Sam asked "What's the deal with Matt and the name Ira? Does he have a _beef_ with some Ira? Did some Ira in middle school…" Luckily he was cut off there. Marisha texted Matt about it, completely without context, and Matt texted back, bewilderedly, "What do you mean? Are people upset that sometimes people share a name in the history of the world?" You can see what kind of environment he has to work in. Players are paranoid and will try to find "connections" where there are none - and the less said about the nitpickyness of the internet at large, the better.

In the original campaign, where Craven Edge killed Grog (he got better) instead of weakening him, all of Vox Machina were already there in position. Grog had a weapon, and he got his ass pummeled by Kevdak. He acknowledged Kevdak's strength, and our cliffhanger was "Vox Machina, fuck shit up!"... and then we had to wait a week to see that fight. I think they handled this so well here in the animated series, with the call back to Earthbreaker Groon, with Pike imperiled... just masterful. We also got the Kaylie reveal before the dragons attacked, and then met her and Dr. Dranzel's troupe in Westruun. They had to ditch the backstory where Dr. Dranzel had discovered Scanlan and made him part of his band, but that was understandable as it would have distracted from the story they needed to tell.

And this is (I think) the first time that the show portrayed Grog's key subclass ability; Frenzy Rage. Grog is Class (the character type so to speak) a barbarian but under that you have Subclass. Frenzy Rage lets the barbarian do what they do the best, HIT STUFF really hard. You get a third attack. But mechanically it is punishing because you get what's called exhaustion and it is all cumulative. If you have three levels of exhaustion that all add up. You have disadvantage (roll two 20 sided dice and take the lower) on ability checks. Stuff like picking up a heavy rock or playing a song. Your speed is 1/2. And disadvantage on attacks and saving throws (If there is a spell or a trap that would harm you). If you have 6 levels you just die. That's it just dead. But like I said I am pretty sure this is the first time we see Frenzied Rage. The part when he get all swole and really starts to lays in to Kevdack.
