The episode’s title comes from Umbrasyl’s nickname of sorts. Each of the chroma conclave have one. - Brimscythe (killed in season 1), the Iron Storm - Umbrasyl, the Hope Devourer - Vorugal, the Frigid Doom - Raishan, the Diseased Deceiver - Throdak, the Cinder King

All the dragons have a moniker (Thordak the Cinder King etc.). The black dragon’s name is Umbrasyl the Hope Devourer (because he likes to play with his food, let them think they’re winning and then end their hope. It’s what he was doing with Grog in Kam’s cave).

I love how Scanlan being rational and not wanting to fight a dragon in its lair comes off as him just being scared. In reality he just became a father, he no longer has the luxury to be the fool. He has to think about living for Kaylie too, but living isn't enough. He must be someone she can be proud of in the end. Seeing him get to make the last attack and save the day was too epic This series is just non stop bangers👏👏

The best part about this fight is that Umbrasyl didn't really go all out till near the end. He wanted the vestiges first, and as a Black dragon he gets off on causing despair. Which is why he's the Hope Devourer. He didn't want to beat and kill them, he wanted them to feel hopeless. As for the very end, it's more that Thordak uses the gold like a large incubator, plus he likes gold. Major case of nesting. And your thoughts on Rai-Shan makes sense. But there is a story there to tell for sure. Each type of dragon has their own tendencies. Blue are extra vainglorious, black are sadists, white are savage, green and Red have their own things too

@@abi_corinne It's wild because dragons are so OP they don't have any predators. So they NEVER can imagine themselves in danger. Umbrasyl literally just beat them AND a Sphinx up a few ago, in the storyline, so why would he think they could handle him at all now? Also fun canon fact from the campaign, Scanlan had Mythcarver for nearly a year before using it. He never does melee combat, he only uses spells. But the sword is design to work in tandem with a bard's abilities, so when he finally did use it, it did something very similar to what happened. Left everyone shook at the table

As I recall, it's probably better to call White's 'primal' rather than savage. They're not stupid, but they're very driven by their hunting instinct and territorial drives. Greens are noted as being deceptive and manipulative... while reds... well... they're the tyrants. The ones with the drive to dominate and rule, an impulse in which Thordak is firmly enmeshed.

6:43 The ability in the game is a Ranger specific one, it allows a ranger to have a better chance of tracking certain creatures that the character/player has chosen (I also liked that scene because up until this point it's more of a headache and then before anything the dragon's already there fucking everything up but now it allowed them to dodge something finally). It was mentioned in the first episode of S1 that the sibling's mother was killed by a dragon so that's like a story reason for her interest in that ability/knowledge.

He plays a Bard in that too, and …um…tickles the viewer Only 20 hours, it’s relatively digestible! It’s a prequel set 1,000 years before Vox Machina, explores what happened to Gods and magic, including more on the impact of the Matron of Ravens on the planet

It's beautifully poetic that Scanlan slew the Hope Devourer, the one that slew Kamaljiori, with the very vestige that was stolen from them both. And Mythcarver is the perfect vestige for a lore bard like Scanlan, especially with how he used his music to empower it.

And with the sight of those wings, Keyleth fell a little more in love with Vax. And Vex got a little more envious of him. And I gotta say, I was not expecting the first inter-party kiss to be the gnomes but they've earned it. And trust me, the Raishan reveal was just as shocking in the campaign. Overall, I love that everyone got to have development and resolutions this seasons. Especially for Scanlan. The half-elves too. Makes me hopeful for Season 3 to lead to more.

I really think Ripley is playing a long con. She didn’t even try to help Umbrasyl and tried to suggest they flee instead of fighting Vox Machina. It also seemed like she was trying to manipulate Umbrasyl into overthrowing Throdak, making all the dragons fight amongst themselves.

Vex's "dragon radar" is an adaptation of a Ranger class feature called Primeaval Awareness. You spend a spell slot and can focus on locating any type of monster you wish to find... I think within a mile, and further if that creature type is one of the Ranger's Favoured Enemy. Truth be told, they've made that ability far more useful than it normally is, as both the features are notoriously situational... if they even work at all (we current Rangers almost all replaced both of those features over a year ago).

The relationship with Raishan does seem to be an "enemy of my enemy" kind of situation. 100% do not trust a dragon, but if a dragon's gonna do dragon things, at least point them in the right direction. They need to play this out with her and focus on finding a way to trick her, but that's not going to be easy with a dragon named "The Diseased Deceiver."

Just to flesh that out, lair actions represent measures that the creature might have taken to prepare its ground defensively, such as the magical landmines that we see Umbrasyl set off in the fight.

Iirc, they mentioned that the jump scares were more of a representation of Vax’s fear than anything else. The Matron can’t really just chat with him, he has to go to her to get more than visions (like pike last season needed to go to the temple with the concentrated sunlight lenses to commune with The Everlight). If you look back at the vision he has in episode 5, it actually foreshadowed the season’s events a bit, as well as stuff to come.

The Deathwalker's Ward, exalted! Dragon lairs tend to have their little tricks. In its exalted form, Mythcarver can grant the bearer four melee attacks at the cost of a point of exhaustion; a magical effect, well represented here.

The lairs are infused with the Dragons magic the surroundings reflecting its nature, so it differs for each. Like Thordak being surrounded by molten gold making it look volcanic

Vex is a ranger. In the game rangers can be specialized hunters for a sepcific type of monster or humanoid. They can track them better and other neat effects for what ever it is you hunt. You can use this in a narritive setting like "Orcs killed my family so now i hunt orcs" as a reason why you are good at hunting them. Obviously Vex is specialized to hunt dragons.

The chromatic dragons (red, blue, white, black, and green) are super greedy and paranoid, but the are also a survivalist. The put their own survival above others. They DO NOT work together. But Thordak is so much more powerful then all the other four that he forces them to work for him. I say for because the blue one that was killed in season one was working for Thordak. Even though the other dragons are being forced to obey the still scheme to further their own goals. Raishan the green dragon is more cunning and devious then the others. Thordak is a threat. Vox Machina is a threat. So just pit them both against each other and kill off the survivor from either Thordak or Vox Machina.

You're gonna love the Mighty Nein, Vox Machina's nice but it's a pretty basic D&D story comparatively speaking. Also the classes and races of the characters are way more diverse and I am really looking forward to seeing Molly again. I would highly suggest watching the cast reacting to the episodes if you're interested in how they made some of the stuff (they're on youtube) though I'm not sure about doing reaction videos to them, might be too meta.

No. Zanror lived through the fight with Umbrasyl, and the herd moved on, and IIRC merged with a larger herd (peacefully)and was absorbed

The first shot is Zanror and the few survivors of the herd burying their fallen before the leave Westrunn.
