This is probably the best dragon battle I've ever seen. Thordak is absolutely terrifying the whole time, even when he's flying away I'm just like "No no no, don't let him get away!" I gotta agree that Raishan is a hell of a villain. She's smart and calculating, always working to come out on top. In case you haven't seen it yet, Critical Role just announced that they have been officially picked up for Season 4 of The Legend of Vox Machina!

Cree Summers' work as Raishan in this ep is so good. When Keyleth goes to make nice, Raishan's voice just drips with gloating sarcasm and malice to my ears to where I'd know she was about to pull something even if I hadn't seen C1. The way she says "Vox Machina" when asking what's next for them is pure disrespect. And the stakes can get SO dang high. It's great.

It's honestly a little wild that Keyleth had such a hard turn from "Raishan is a motherfucking murderer, she killed my people with 0 remorse, we can't trust her in the slightest" to "Oh! I feel so bad for doubting Raishan :( I have to go apologise immediately" after the dragon barely helps them in the fight and takes the least risk possible

@@zedbee2736 Maybe a bit, but she also got ground down a lot by being that one and only voice against it for so long, then Percy's death, plus her self confidence is still not the best at all times, so it's kind of understandable to me, after a situation where Raishan aiding Thordak would've been too much for them to handle still and she did that bare minimum of attacking him. The moment made the bare minimum feel a lot more weighty.

@@neintales1224yeah like every time keyleth spoke against raishan she ended up helping them, even in this episode with thordak, until the last encounter with her. she clearly felt bad and like you said, her self confidence issues didn’t help

@@zedbee2736Every previous time she accused Raishan she was wrong. Until they accomplished their shared goal, Raishan never did anything negative against Vox Machina until their alliance was completed. If she decided to reveal their location to Thordark and Vorgual or sided with Thordark in the final fight, Vox Machina would’ve been destroyed or heavily devastated. Keyleth was right not to trust her, but being willing to work with her up to this point was really the best way of going about it.

The entire point of the Matron of Ravens is that she protects the sanctity of the transition between life and death. It is against her nature to just let people come back to life. With Vax, it was different. He pledged his service to her as her new champion, this trading his fate away for Vex's life. That was a one time thing with extenuating circumstances. Besides, Kash is married to a goddess named Vesh. If anyone is gonna take his soul, it's her.

Raishan and Ripley apologist, finally found my people! This season is a masterclass in storytelling. They deviated from their campaign but the changes makes their story much more brilliant and engaging.

Yeah some BIIIIIIIIIIG changes. Percy was still alive for the Thordak fight. Ripley wasnt only dead, but Vox Machina mutilated her corpse(scanlan carved the De Rolo crest into ripley's forehead), not to mention Kash didnt die! Also, Pike throwing away her holy symbol and moving away from the Everlight is not only brand new, but also COMPLETELY changes the entire character and story of Pike. We are off grid here, sailing out into uncharted waters.

I'm loving the changes they have made so far. They have really made the story flow really well and bring actual stakes to death even in a world where resurrection is a real thing.

I think Pike’s change is ultimately temporary, and will become a plot point of the next season as they explore Xerxus trying to corrupt her.

Well to be honest Pike didnt have much of a story in C1. She tagged along when she could, but she spent most of the "time" in Vassleheim rebuilding the temple of Everlight. The only true story beat I remember for Pike was meeting her family before the Keyfish incident. So the changes to Pike is probably the story Ashley wanted to tell at the table. And I love it.

I was hype when Raishan helped with the Thordak jumping, but then Keyleth wanted to meet her in an undisclosed location and I immediately knew a villain monologue was about to come through 😂😂

it was the same as Ripley's situation in s1 - she had vital info for the team, so they all had bigger priorities than letting their friend have the revenge, and said friend couldn't articulate very well why that would be a horrible, horrible idea. Except Raishan said straight away that she was dying, so nobody thought to be suspicious of her still be looking for a cure and being a future problem herself. They had limited options but WOW, Vox machina really took the wrong lesson from Percy's death, which was caused exactly by /Ripley/

There is a reason that Raishan took Thordak's body, they've already made several changes to canon for the show, I'm hoping she'll succeed in her plan, and we get to fight her in the form she wanted to become in the actual play, it'll be MUCH cooler that way!

I kinda thought it was _cheap_ that the gang just _materialized_ to Kiki’s aid after Raishan blew her poison at Keyleth’s face. I _appreciate_ the fact that the creators didn’t want to end an episode with another possible death of a main character, but it just feels kinda tacked on. Maybe if they _showed_ the gang having a reason to go to Thordak’s lair like Trinket followed Keyleth to Thordak’s lair and Vex and Vax went after him or they showed the whole gang following Keyleth in case Raishan pulled anything.

I get it, Rock. When i watched the campaign, i kept hoping for them to actually ally with Raishan. There was a moment where i think she could have been a real true ally on their side, but it was never happening cause of Keyleths revenge. Seeing her animated just makes it better, though, so excited to see where they're going with her and Ripley in this adaption.

D&D lore, green dragons can't resist betraying anyone and everyone they make a deal with. The same way red dragons can't resist bossing people, white dragons can't resist hunting prey, black dragons can't resist toying with enemies, etc. It's in their natures.
