Yeah I mean you can see Taliesin clock what Laura is going to do about halfway through the conversation and so he starts dropping some lines that are a little bit more indicative of Vax interrupting something... And Laura absolutely took the bait and after she does do that joke Taliesin says "I was HOPING you would do that"... But yeah I think pretty much only Taliesin wasn't caught off guard at the table 😂 it's such a great moment.

Fun fact: in the same way VM is based on the D&D campaign of Critical Role, Zerxus' story is from an actual play miniseries called "EXU: Calamity", in which the players were the Ring of Brass (the faces shown in the flashback). Luis Carazo played Zerxus in that game and returned to voice the character here. It's widely considered one of the best actual plays ever produced. I know a LOT of Critters (myself included) were overjoyed that Zerxus and the Ring of Brass are officially canon in the show, and are hoping for an animated special or movie to feature their story.

Sam (Scalan) was present throughout the actual campaign. The later half of the conclave arc was just all around a rough period for Scanlan (Sam himself though would consistently keep everyone laughing out of character). The struggle of wanting to be there for both his friends and his daughter, as well as watching all the others get really powerful while he felt like he wasn't contributing much in the fights. Y'all's comment on no one noticing he was missing after they teleported back is also part of it. That feeling that no one truly noticed or cared about him.

@@lokithecat7225 I get your point and there is some truth to it. Sam did make Scanlan as a joke. He never treated his character seriously. So him going off on others because they didn't take him seriously was a bit off. But consider this, we have all had friends who were the class clown. The ones you can't take seriously because they constantly make themselves the butt of the joke. How many of them are feeling so desperately alone, lost and feeling like they have to constantly be the joke to even be considered as part of the "group"? Surely you have had friends like this. Let me give you the deets. People like that are probably hurting and feeling like their friends, people who are supposed to care about you just don't, beyond what you can offer them. That is a terrible way to look at yourself. That people don't bother connecting with you just because they like you. We aren't designed to be loners(as much as people like to claim otherwise). Not every class clown feels that way, yes.. but most of them probably do. Also the "fit" was accompanied by multiple games where his little Spice joke started feeling more real, like he was RPing an actual addict trying to hide their pain. They even had a scene where Scanlan ODs and after being revived, he is admonished by Vax for messing around. But not one person saw it as a cry for help. Then it culminated into the scene. That is why people love his character. That moment made him feel like a real person instead of a caricature. Did Sam plan it in advance? No probably not. But he did set up the moment very well. RPing his slow descent into losing himself. Honestly I am convinced that that moment was so powerful because it wasn't Scanlan, it was Sam through and through. You almost got to see a side of him that is so incredibly vulnerable especially for him. That is the beauty of the moment and that is why people love it. You know how the saying goes, Most Comedians are fundamentally broken people and they mask their pain in humor.

She rolled. Before she had a chance to declare the result, Taliesin interrupted to say that Percy was reaching down to get the armour. In Matt's mind, that meant that Percy touched the vestige before Vex finished checking, thus triggering the trap which got Vex killed.

So to put into perspective exactly how fast Vax is supposed to be here, in the Tabletop game a turn of combat takes place within 6 seconds, with all participants moving at the same time, but played out in order of 'inititive'. in one turn, Vax has a base movement speed of 60 feet per turn without aide. With a Haste spell (which he can activate on his boots) that distance doubles to 120, plus with his Vestige, he was able to double that speed once a day for an hour once more, so in all when push came to shove the fastest we have seen Vax move was 480 feet. Craziest part is, he could go an extra 120 feet if he wanted too, but just has never been seen to do it. 480 feet is larger than a football field.

We arent really sure how thordak got offspring. In d&d generallt chromatic dragons like all the ones weve met dont enjoy company. Thats why gilmore said it was rare to see dragons fighting together. Generally chromatic dragons dislike each other. They highlt avoid different color dragons. As far as parenting red dragons like thordak the mother will watch the eggs but the father will abandon both mother and eggs immediately. Once the offspring hatch a red mother will kick her offpsring out of her territory. White dragons are the only worse parents in the dragon world being that white dragons wont even watch over their eggs once laid. As far as thordak being a father... he might actually be the mother now. No joke. In d&d lore dragons are very very rare. So if two red male dragons meet and get alone one of them will legit transform into a female red dragon. Which is normal among even some of todays animals like frogs and bearded dragons. My assumption is the crystal that fused with thordak drove him mad. In doing so his body somehow produced offspring. We assume he didnt breed with the poison dragon. She hates him as most dragons would. So i assume thordak fliped genders and laid the eggs himself. And in his now maddened state he actually cares about his offspring which is new for red dragons.
