The reason Scanlan was turning his lute at the end of the episode is because he's a bard. He literally has to use an instrument or sing in order to cast spells. Him tuning his lute is literally the same thing as someone sharpening a sword or making sure the string on their bow is useable.

Character Names and a no-spoilers character description to make your lives easier: *note* : all of these characters are based off dungeons and dragons characters from the primary voice actors’ game that they streamed on twitch. These characters are from their first campaign, they are currently on their third. *Grog Strongjaw* - BIG BOI - He’s a Goliath (aka half-giant/half-human). He’s a lil dumb but super loyal. He’s also a Barbarian. His primary abilities are his Rage (makes himself so blindly angry that he doesn’t take as much damage) and his strength. You get close, you’re getting crushed. He and pike are practically siblings after she and her grandfather took him in when he was kicked out of his family’s herd (band of traveling goliaths that pillage their way from town to town). *Scanlan Shorthalt* - Lil Fuckboi - He’s a gnome. He’s a hoe but funny as hell. He’s a bard. He uses music to debuff enemies and buff allies. He’s primarily a support class, so you’ll frequently see him making his allies’ lives easier than actually attacking head on. He gets in peoples faces and is unapologetically himself. He’s also deeply loyal despite his teasing. *Pike Trickfoot* - Holy little lady - She’s also a gnome. She’s a lil awkward but she’s the group’s moral compass. She’s a cleric (priestess) for the goddess whom she refers to as The Everlight. She’s the primary healer and uses a lot of protection magic and buffing effects. Sometimes she’s a little monsta and attacks head on though. She’s rough around the edges so she doesn’t fit the neat and tidy priestly title, but she’s the physically little but actually older sister to a Goliath, so it’s understandable. *Keyleth of the Air Asharii* (Kiki) - awkward redhead druid. She’s a half-elf. She’s lived a really sheltered life, but she’s on her path to grow as a person and a leader. She’s a druid. She’s controls nature as her primary ability. She can also transform into other animals. The class usually leans into area of effect attacks and field control, but has room to attack head on and be fairly tanky using those animal transformations. It’s really a Swiss Army knife class. Keyleth’s is just really timid and inexperienced, so she hasn’t really come into her own yet. *Vex’aliah* (Vex) - tracker lady with the “spidy sense” - She’s also a half-elf. She’s Vax’ildan’s twin sister. She’s the face (does the talking most of the time) and accountant of the group. She’s a Ranger. She tracks and hunts. The “spidy sense” thing is actually an adaptation of a class feature; she can sense the presence of her favored enemies, knows a lot about them, and can track them easily. Vex has dragons as a favored enemy because, as she said in this episode, one killed her and Vax’s mother. The bear, Trinket, is her beast companion. She’s raised him since he was a cub when his mother was murdered by hunters. *Vax’ildan* (Vax) - sly guy with the daggers - He’s a half-elf and Vex’s twin. He’s the sneaky bisexual trickster. He’s a rouge. His character class is all about stealth, speed, and hitting quick (but deadly) and getting out. He deals leathal damage in a few quick hits and then disappears. He’s also deeply loyal and a little on the reckless side because he can usually slink his way out of bad situations. He, Grog, and Scanlan are the pinacle of “the really competent (in their own ways) when they’re separated, but absolute dumbasses when they’re alone together”. *Perceval Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III* (It’s long ass name. That’s the joke. *Percy de Rolo* is fine) - He’s the group’s only full human. He’s a fighter, specifically a gunslinger. He is actually the inventor of firearms in this universe. That’s why we see frequent misfires; he hasn’t perfected the technology yet. He’s a menace from a distance and usually doesn’t like to get too close to the action. His class is all about hitting hard and hitting frequently before his opponent even has a chance to retaliate. His class has the most attacks per round in the game. Percy is less keen on roughing it and more used to high society.

Welcome to D&D: where the absolutely ridiculous joins with horror. No matter your age, D&D brings out that gross 12yr old. Also, if you have issues with LGBTQ- not the series for you. Can’t wait until you’re introduced to Gilmore in episode 2 for that matter. Something you have with this show as opposed to any other - 373hrs of additional content. They had to smash a lot into 12episodes for the Briarwood Arc. So yeah, check out Critical Role. They’re currently on Campaign 3. The large cast is because each actor created & played their own characters from their D&D game. Matt Mercer was the DM & made this entire world for his players. He also gets a cameo every episode (this time he was peed on by Scanlan) and plays multiple characters in the series itself. There is so, SO much you’re missing, but that’s okay. Love it for what it is - a passionate projects funded by fans. The whole reason this exists is because of the biggest Kickstarter campaign in history, raising over $11million. It was only after that that Prime picked it up.

Yes, this is exactly what I wanted! A pure, unfiltered reaction. Quick trivia. The barkeeper is a changeling, shapeshifters who can change their forms easily and rarely stick to one gender, hence the pink beard. They polled the fans to come up with an original character for the show, and the barkeeper was the result. The guy Scanlan pissed on is modeled after (and voiced by) Matthew Mercer, the group's DM. He also voices the narrator, one of the guards, the guy who got his hand chopped off, and many others. The cast is full of voice actors so odds are you've heard all of these voices before even if you didn't recognize them at the time.

The first three episodes are already out and they will be releasing them three a week and there are 12 episodes. As for their strength as a group, this is early days. They aren't quite the team they will become and they have a lot to learn and grow into it. However, the language and violence will be expected to continue as is. Funny that you nicknamed the dark clothes thief twin Dexter because of his dexterity, when in the D&D game the voice actors played that inspired the show, there's a stat in the game called "Dexterity" and that dude Vax is maxed out on it, meaning he's got almost superhuman levels of it. In D&D there are two types of dragons, Metallic and Chromatic. For Chromatic you have Blue dragons like the the one you saw, breath Lightening, Red dragons breath Fire, White dragons have Ice breath, Black dragons breath Acid, and Green dragons breath Poison. Dragons are very intelligent and each kind have different primary personality traits. Then there are Metallic dragons: Gold a cone of fire, Silver cone of cold, Bronze lightening, Copper Acid, Brass sleeping gas.

Different color dragons in D&D have different breath weapon types.
