@SchrodingerMil3 жыл бұрын
@@latalata1000 Caesar started a siege of Alesia and build walls around the city. Vercingetorix was in the city and his main armies surrounded Caesar's army, hoping to starve them out. Caesar's reserve's came in and built ANOTHER wall around Vercingetorix's main armies, making kind of a donut. Vercingetorix's (Gaul) reserves and supplies were cut off, and his reserves weren't well trained or equipped enough to bust the second wall, so the main army starved. Caesars main body held out better due to better supplies and training. The Gauls almost broke out but the walls had taken their tolls, and Caesar personally led the last of his reserves into battle. Caesar won, Vercingetorix surrendered, was sent to jail, and 6 years later was executed.

i mean, to a certain degree this strategy is amazing. 1) learn a fast build order. be fast at the beginning. 2) now split attention into two categories: a) wall-vills: build walls. focus here. this is your substitute for military. b) home-vills: focus mainly on stone 3) autopilot step 2, react to whatever you see on the other side of the wall. counter that unit with your siege workshop. 4) go feitoria and forget home-vills. no fully concentrate on wall-vills and counter-siege. i REALLY love it.

I've gotta say, at the lower levels, and even mid levels, this is actually a great strat IF you know how to capitalize on it. Sure, it costs resources, but it also puts the game into your hands - A competent player could wall off their enemy, triple TC boom with exclusively forward military, and if I'm correct, surprise rush into the enemy base by deleting your own walls. In faster paced, higher level, games this wouldn't work that well, but when games rarely even see combat by the 20 minute mark? You have an advanced alert if your opponent tries anything - You can hunt down whatever's outside their base and kill/destroy it so they don't know what you're doing - And then just build up for the killing blow, especially since you're practically guaranteed to have the resource advantage due to controlling literally everything outside of the enemy base. Whether you go for a quick win via a surprise rush, or a slow win via out-resourcing your opponent and defeating them via attrition, it actually puts you in a really good long-term position.
@askthepizzaguy Жыл бұрын
This reminds me of certain chess games I've seen. Usually, in the opening you want to develop your pieces and castle your king to safety, and open up lines of attack to the enemy king. Pushing too many pawns just makes the pawns weak targets that are easy to attack, and they can't defend your territory once they've moved past it, since they only ever move forward. So a pawn storm opening is considered weak in most examples. But in some specific examples, the pawn storm pushed back enemy pieces, closed off the center, paralyzed the enemy pawns, and denied space for the opposing army to maneuver, and the position remained closed. Then the player with more space was free to move their pieces to any side of the board and attack there at will, finding a weakness and exploiting it, while the player with less space tried to defend and couldn't move their pieces well enough to defend everywhere at once. The concept of denying your opponent space, even if they have an advantage in everything else, seems to be at work here. Blue has all the tech, all the economy, even a better army. But all of those advantages mean nothing if you can't break out and use any of it. And Wall is sitting there boxing in his opponent and destroying a technically better army, better economic buildings, better everything, simply by having ranged artillery that you can't hit back. That's it, you don't have a counter to his one move, and you're unable to move and avoid being hit by his one move. He's like a wrestler who pins you to the ground, grapples your limbs, and then starts biting you when you're absolutely helpless. Usually you'd just punch someone who is biting you, but this guy has you in a full nelson first, pinned against the ground. Chomp Chomp Chomp.

My instinct was to vill fight him, I sent 5 villagers forward, but then I got an idea for secret villager. I sent her away and in Feudal built a secret stable, while distracting his villagers into a fight. Created scouts and upgraded them just in case, killed his villagers and got to castle age. He resigned. Thanks T90Official for the video! I would never be prepared for this without this video. If anyone interested the game is Hindawi vs CorZ (Franks vs Portuguese).

What I don't understand is, seeing how critical the attacking bombard cannons were to the strategy, why the defender didn't use his superior economy to build his own bombard cannons, but more of them. Also, building a castle, and then not defending it, seems to be just a waste of resources. A couple further tricks, that I don't think I've seen discussed. 1) If the defender wants to delete a wall section that's hidden behind an enemy wall, and he's truly unable to select it (not necessarily true), then he can build a gate into his wall. Maybe? 2) One way of getting through forests quickly is to chop the bark off a tree, drop a building onto it, cancel the building, rinse and repeat. If the villager is loaded with wood, switch to a different resource, which drops the wood, then immediately go back to wood. Sure, it takes a lot of micromanagement, but the alternative appears to be death. Is this strategy really a certain win? Perhaps the defender has to counter-wall immediately. Palisade walls across the enemy gates in dark age? A tunnel towards the enemy base?
