Neighbor Darrell reminds me of my neighbor growing up in the eighties, he was GI generation, used a literal fuse ignited musket to hunt for his family of like 8 siblings when he was a teen.... That man taught me so much about life if I could relive just ten minutes with him, he was so kind and never said a bad word about anyone... Always treasure people like this, sadly our time with them is never enough.

My junior high English teacher was married to the county game warden. During the time he was a warden he did not get to go deer hunting (rifle) even one time he told us He was a game warden for a good thirty years in our county by the time I met him doing hunters safety. I remember after his retirement when he admitted that if a family was poor and he heard a rifle going off one time during the off-season he would just ignore it because he knew they needed food. After he retired we got a game warden who got shot and killed by a crazy kid who was in the eighth grade so they named the new park by a dam after him. I got the first scholarship named after him for college.

He said the only not better in the woods is taking a dump, but I would argue that. 5 yrs in the mountains in northern Cali, most of it on a 40 acre ranch in the middle of a mostly timber company owned mountain. We had what we called the throne we build in a clearing not far from the shop that was just a huge hole with big lava rocks stacked around and a toilet on the top. A coffee can with some TP in it and you could take a afternoon crap in the clearing with your back toward to woods that faced home and watch the sunset if you wanted to...just had to make sure and tell everyone you were going to throne so no one walked in on you. 😂😂😂
