Link isn't mute in the other games. He speaks plenty. We just don't get to hear it. But we do select what he says often and we do see him talking to people.

in the lore of this game, he was mute from childhood because he was sucked into a rift as a kid. apparently he regains the ability to talk after the final boss

Yeah, similar to Castlevania Symphony of the Night, after you got the True Ending in the Main Story Mode wehre you play as Alucard, you can Eventually unlock "Richter Mode" where you play as Richter Belmont for the entire game like in a classical castlevania, less attack options but immense Attack Power

If gaining link’s abilities is so important, just play a game with Link in it.
@LuznoLindo2 ай бұрын
Pretty sure that'd defeat the purpose of the entire game. After all, it's the first Legend of Zelda where it's actually about the titular character's legend.

@LuznoLindo Yeah, they lose the opportunity to call this game the Legend of Link: echoes of Wisdom. That would be really funny.

the reason gaining his abilities is so important is Because these are weapons that can destroy the creatures from the Void

This game would’ve been significantly better if I weren’t forced to rescue Link. Screw that. Seeing him trapped in that crystal just feels gross.
@xdman028919 күн бұрын
I say this game did Link justice in ways I didn't expect. He was one of the kids that were stolen away, and unlike most, successfully escaped the void alive with other kids at the cost of his voice. Others that returned from the Still World remained husk of themselves, unable to feel or emote at all. But Link despite not being able to speak anymore, his spirit was never shattered, the experience only motivated him to become a warrior and fight off the void to the best of his abilities. Link wasn't even a knight or fighter before being stolen away from the void for the first time. He was a random kid minding his own business, and still fought out of the void while saving the other kids with him. Then we cut to the very beginning of the game with Link storming off to Ganon immediately, max hearts, upgraded arrows and bombs, and won the fight. Before Link fell into the void, he made the last minute decision to shoot one last arrow at Zelda's crystal to free her, ultimately saving the world with that one action. And when he was sucked into the void again, you'd think he was captured or frozen as we played as Zelda through the entire half way point...but no. Link jumping in out of nowhere to defend Zelda from Null with nothing but a club tells me he's been fighting in the Still World all this time, he was getting shit done while trapped here. Link getting captured by Null last second as Zelda was being teleported away seems reasonable to me...Null is a Entity from before the universe was made, strong enough to contain the 3 Golden Goddesses. And finally during the endgame, when Zelda breaks Link out of his crystal and returns all Link's weapons back to him, he locks in by Zelda's side, tearing a opening through Null's physical body with a single slash to enter inside. Link continues to be just as big of a help to Zelda as Zelda is to Link during the final area, and need I say more about Zelda and Link working together during the final battle? They both slayed a lovecraftian cosmic horror together. Zelda saving Link felt great given all the shit he's been through and all he's done without being the main character. And it feels great for Zelda to return the favor to Link since he's the reason she got away at the beginning of the game. All this, yet Link and Zelda don't even know each other in this game.
@theplinko984019 күн бұрын
@ if it were any other character I could maybe agree, but not Link. This is a character made specifically to be a player insert. I’m supposed to project myself onto him, and I have for my entire time playing Zelda. Being forced to rescue him feels gross because I don’t want to rescue myself.
@xdman028919 күн бұрын
@@theplinko9840 Yes, while Link is meant to be the "link" between the game and the player, he's still his own character with his own backstory and relationships in a good amount of Zelda games. It's why you don't name him in this game, or Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom. Despite being a silent protagonist, he still has his own distinct characteristics and traits that make Link....Link. This game is basically a protagonist switch, as you get to see what your previous character is like when you're not playing as him. You get to view him from a new perspective, Zelda's perspective this time, which is kinda a big eye opener seeing Link's achievements throughout this game without your personal input. It goes to show Link can still do everything you've been able to do when you played as him, and now you're returning the favor to Link after years of playing as him. Meta wise, you got Link to this point if you're a long time Zelda player, he's fully capable on his own now based on his max hearts, and upgraded weapons. And now that a new villian greater than every single one you and Link conquered together, took your years long established dynamic with Link away from you, as Zelda you can rescue him. You're not rescuing yourself, you're saving the character that got this far because of you. Pokèmon has the same deal most of the time. All trainers you play as are intended to project yourself on, and create your own teams, but they do have canon names, and are canon characters of themselves. Red is the most iconic Pokèmon protagonist given he's the first trainer you place as in the first game. But after the first game, you play as new people, and Red returns every now and then as his own character. You even get to battle Red a few times, and he has his own canon team that may not align with your team when you first played as Red. He's still silent, he's still a strong trainer, he still associates with the rival trainer you know all to well you fought him often as Red, he's still everything you were when you played as him, but now you get to see Red from a new trainers perspective.

@ in the vast majority of games Link has _very_ little personality of his own. Skyward Sword is the only one where I could tell you anything about his personality. BotW/TotK Link is as blank slate as it gets, almost to fault. The problem is that I _can’t_ view him from another perspective. I’ve spent so long projecting myself onto Link and now I’m being told I shouldn’t because now I have to play as a side character.
