I think the significance of koholint island disappearing is actually kinda dark. Link technically did save the island but the nightmares actually was trying to take over and if they did everyone would have been suffering from that. By ending the wind fish's dream as well as everyone on the island it makes it so the monsters and nightmares can't take over

I deeply enjoyed Link's Awakening but the ending makes me so sad. Link being a character you're supposed to reflect yourself off of, Marin being a girl that has a crush on Link and the fact that me, a guy that has terrible luck with girls, watching her disappear at the end of the game just pushed a dagger deeper through my stomach. It hurts. Nintendo why would you make a game that made me feel bad about my social life?!
