This remix is beyond amazing. You did wonderfully on this. I feel like so many people take songs and remix them only for the sake of making a remix, and that many either don't really go out of their way to make their remix much unique or try to hard and just overdo everything. Now, I don't hate the remixes or the remixers, but much is left to be desired nowadays in terms of good remixes. I just feel like after a while, so many remixes start to sound the same, and there isn't much to remember them by individually. This remix though is a completely different story. You've shown in your many remixes that you have skill and talent in this type of business. I'll take this remix for example. The main essence of the song is the emotion in the melody, played here by a piano, just like in the game, but the other instruments and effects in the remix help to accentuate the parts of it. The bass is pretty simple and loud enough to be heard, yet not too heavy to drown out the other instruments. The beat of the drums along with the bass and strings help to add [to] a feeling of enigma yet urgency and desperation. (The drums also make me think of dramatic scenes in movies.) The instrument that sounds like a crystal (I have no idea what it is, but I don't know if it might be chimes or a glockenspiel) along with the synths gives off an otherworldly, mysterious and magical air to the whole song, and the little portions played by the ocarina (or whatever woodwind instrument that is. It sounds like an ocarina to me) just flow so well into everything else. I don't know, maybe I'm looking way too hard into the music and letting my imagination think as it pleases, but this remix is truly wonderful to me to behold. I just wanted to express how amazing I think it is. Also, I see that you are a very kind, helpful person and that you respond to your fans in the comments, every comments on really old remixes. I really like to see people connect to their fans and followers. I have many questions, but I think I've talked quite enough already, so I'll try to make this quick. What instruments did you use in this remix? I'm curious to know (and also I feel really stupid because I try to sound smart but have little to no idea the difference between certain instruments, so to learn would be great. ((13 year olds like me can be very dumb to say the least)) I actually love learning new things, especially things that pertain to my interests and hobbies) Also, how long have you been making remixes for? I'm just really curious to know how long you've worked making such amazing music. I won't ask any more questions for now because once again, I've talked more than anyone probably would ever care to read, but I really do hope you see this. I just think you're a really cool person. P.S. I would love to see your take on more songs from Twilight Princess if you felt like making more remixes of songs from the game. P.P.S. I love the visuals for the vid! Sorry to talk so long
@qumumusic8 жыл бұрын
First of all, thank you! I really appreciate the comment. It is without a doubt the longest comment I've ever gotten, and I'll do my best to give you a proper reply! With every remix, I look at what the song means in the game, as well as what makes the song stand out to me personally (which is why I tend to remix tracks from games I have played). So when I get comments saying that I've managed to capture the essence of the song, that really means a lot to me. I do my best trying to read and answer every comment, but sadly the channel has recently come to the point where some comments slip through the cracks. I don't mind answering questions, so if you have any more, just throw them at me! I don't know how in-depth you want me to explain the instruments, I'll at least give you a quick overview of the instruments remember. Just keep in mind that for the most part I make music digitally, so all of the instruments are either from sample packs or they're synthesized. The percussion consists of a variety of different metallic sounds, as well as a main drumset that is being pretty heavily distorted and processed. The bass itself is an acoustic bass guitar mixed with a synth making a sine wave to give the bass power without making it harsh and intrusive. The crystal sound you're describing is a gamelan, though it sounds a lot like a glockenspiel or chimes. I just experimented with playing the melody with different metal instruments until I found a sound I really liked. The flute is actually a synthesizer that sounds like a flute, but when picking the synth I was going for an ocarina-like sound. There's a solo cello in the background playing some sad low notes for most of the song, and later in the song there's a violin ensemble playing chords. I won't go much into how to make the synths unless you're really interested in the details. Anyway, feel free to ask if you have any more questions about the instruments or the synths. Don't sell yourself short. I rarely get long and articulate comments, and not knowing something only means you haven't been exposed to the knowledge yet. I learn something new almost every day I make music, and I'm pretty sure that I'm just scratching the surface of music making. I have been uploading remixes to KZbin for a little more than 3 years now (October 2013), but I first started making music in the fall of 2009. Might make more from Twilight Princess in the future, but I don't have any plans to yet. A mix from Wind Waker is coming soon though! Thanks, I'm glad you like the visuals, and don't worry about it!

Things I love: The reverse piano/synth and the soft bass melody, giving that ghostly texture that resembles the twilight style. The intense drums to add tension since this song plays during a dramatic part of the game where midna is dying and you have to run across Hyrule to save her before time runs out. I love how dry and gritty intertwines with the ballad esque piano and compliments each other.

This is such an awesome remix, I had it stuck in my head for ages! I kept trying to think of what exactly it reminded me of, and I finally realised that it's got a lot of similar vibes to (please forgive me) Homestuck music. The use of more analogue-sounding instruments in the melodies coupled with a more electronic deep, distant/fuzzy beat and the selective use of reverb is really cool and interesting, and one of the things I really love about this remix!

Yay!!! Finally another video! I subscribed shortly after your DKR song, and I was beginning to think that you were just some amazing artist that got discouraged and quit. I am so glad that isn't the case, because for the few songs you have on your channel, your remixes are some of the best I've heard on the internet in the last 15 years. You have a fantastic ear for what makes a remix still feel like it belongs in the original work by capturing the spirit and tone of the original, but is unique throughout. Your Star Fox, Mario 64, and Luigi's Mansions remixes are some of my favorite game remixes of all time. Sincerely, please keep up the good work.

Awesome job! I love this remix! What kind of effects are you using in the piano accompaniment in the second section starting around 0:40? Sounds awesome and I would love to play around with that effect myself.
@qumumusic8 жыл бұрын
+Brent Patteson hey, thanks! The piano accompaniment at 00:40 is a synth I played around with. It is basically a saw wave with two low-pass filters on it. One filter has a high resonance and has its cutoff modulated by a mod wheel, and the other filter has very little resonance, and has its cutoff modulated by a fast envelope. The synth also has a little pitch vibrato to make it a bit more lively. After that is a very slight stereo chorus/unison to broaden the sound a bit, and at the very end there's a delay. For the specific software, I used Harmor to make the sound, and Replika as a delay plug-in Hope that explains the creation process to some degree!
Finally, a good remix of Midna's Lament for once. Excellent work, Qumu. For some reason I think this would fit right in at Zora's Domain when it's frozen over, or at Snowpeak. Edit: Do you have a Patreon account?

is there a way I can dm you, because you are an amazing inspiration to me, I remix songs too like you but... not as good, I would like to learn how I could do it as well as you do. 'w'

Thank you ^//^ I'm glad you want to learn, but I honestly can't help at the moment. I might make tutorials in the future, but right now, if I was to give people private lessons it'd take up all my time, sorry :o

@qumumusic7 жыл бұрын
Probably will in the future, all the Zelda games have amazing soundtracks, so it's just a matter of time :D

This remix feels more "electronically fractured" and neutral-hearted compared to the original which is "sad and whole". In Midnas Lament original it's like the fractured world came together to pin-point something very important and intense. You made this song very different to what it's applied to, not that it's a bad thing for a remix to do.
@qumumusic4 жыл бұрын
"Fractured" is definitely one of the feelings I had in mind while making it, so it's really good to hear that ^^ Thank you very much!

@qumumusic8 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks! I have been considering Ocarina of Time for a long time now, so there is a very high chance of it being remixed in the future!
@haydnstrauss8 жыл бұрын
You should make some faster paced things. But as always, great remix.
@qumumusic8 жыл бұрын
+Flajarkin I just need to slow down from time to time, but you know I make faster stuff too, so there will be more of both in the future ;)
