My dad was an F-4 pilot, serving in Viet Nam in 1968. I miss him dearly.
@BrianLucy-g6tАй бұрын
My Dad was the head metalsmith foreman at North Island NAS (where the Top Gun Maverick movie was recently filmed) up until 1975 when he retired, and was responsible for the repair and maintenance of F-4 Phantoms for the Navy during the Vietnam war. His primary function was to estimate what it would cost to rebuild the jets that had crashed, if it was worth it to repair, and to direct their repairs. He knew every inch of those wonderful aircraft! Also maintained Blue Angels' jets when they used F-4s and would work directly with McDonnell Douglas engineers in St. Louis to effect repairs when defects were found with the internal structures like metal fatigue. As you can see, I am very proud of my father's contributions to the longevity of these birds!
@AJFar-tm7dnАй бұрын
Yes, you should be so proud. Huge responsibility he had in Nam as well as The Blue Angels. Quonset Naval Air Station in my hometown of North Kingstown Rhode Island is where I learned to love The Phantom. I was 10 years old in 1970. My Dad was in the Navy during the Korean War and he loved military aviation. Our Naval Base has hosted Air Shows since I was little.

Served as ground personnel in the Greek airforce around 1994-1995 in an F-4 Squadron. I have probably filled fuel to the F-4s we see in this video back at the time. Nice to see them ripping through the air to this day.

Wild Weasels out of George AFB or testing F-4s out Edwards AFB and Navy/Marines out of China Lake NAS. It will be great if Collins Foundation gets their F-4 airworthy and introduces the F-4 to the current generation. Long live the "Brick"

I recall seeing a vid of a youngster so busy filming a U.S. steam engine that he didn't realize he was standing in front of it as it moved. That first Rhino was really smoking. Normally I would say get that bird in the hush house and put a good trim on the j-79, but considering the age, they are like an old auto engine, no matter how you tune them, they're just gonna smoke because they are worn out.
