Man! This video makes me miss my 2006 RC51 so bad! Due to medical reasons, I had to sell it last year, but at least I had the opportunity to own my Dream Bike from October 2013-September 2017. After the PC III, new sprocket setup, and suspension setup to my weight, my RC51 was an animal and that sexy beast had such an amazing Vtwin sound, but I LOVED the cam gear whine and strange stares from people trying to figure out why it sounded like a lumpy muscle car! 😊 This bike is made for twisties! Thank you for the upload! 👍🏽

Love V motors in bikes. I have had a VFR400R NC24 and now have a VFR400R NC30 1991 model and a VFR800FI 2001 model. The V motors have plenty low down torque and makes it a real pleasure to ride. Only trouble I have had was the Rectifier on the 800. Both VFR's are in mint condition. Lots of bikers cant believe the condition of my NC30. Thank the Lord for Japanese Bikes. Tks for the Video.

93ish% correct, it does stop the fairing deforming in stange asymetrical ways (reducing a percentage of different, changing handling), ..and does take some of the additional loadings from the aerodynamics & suspension bouncing/wobbling harmonic resonances of the fairing and lights, away from effecting from the induction intake tubes own resonances.

I remember my dad buying one used in the late 2000s, coming home racing past the house at 70mph at 10k rpm in our residential area in race leathers was a sight to behold. I just bought an 03 rc51 for 800 bucks at an estate sale. It sat indoors for five years was dusty but great shape. I put new tires new fluids new battery cleaned fuel system out and it fired right up. Has 8200 miles on it. Was bought by an older guy new and he died and it sat in his wife’s garage since. Then she passed and her kids sold it to me.

I had a nicely set up one with a full Akra system, dyno 140hp. It would literally set off any car alarm within 50 mtrs of the bike. I would have a crowd of people cheer as I went past at full noise whenever I took it to the track. For a sport bike they were a slow steering heavy pig straight out of the box though.It had an amazing ability to retain control whilst completely spinning up the rear wheel, some tracks the rear wheel would completely break loose at 250 km/h under full throttle, but you could still steer it through a corner. The most fun I've ever had on a bike was that bike at Phillip Island. It was hella uncomfortable, and I had to spend about 30k on it to get it to go good.
@dannyhampton711
@dannyhampton711 6 жыл бұрын
Richard Anderson first off I apologize for not knowing you , because anyone that can spool the rear wheel at that speed under full throttle deserves to be known! by the way is that a typo @ 30k or should that be 3k? I raced for ten years but in motocross and made top ten experts in Maryland and D.C. and street raced and drag raced at the track buy yet am still impressed at your claim!! Great riding! Be safe out there!

I love this bike! I had a 2004 "Nicky Hayden Edition" (RIP) with a Power Commander and Yoshimura dual exhaust. Ideling, it sounded like a helicopter. That high pitch whine from the gear driven cams sounded sick as well. The bike had no head shake and I got it up to 186 with some sprocket modification and cam two fuel. The front air induction was cool looking and with a K&N filter the bike just roared. The dual exhaust was also very unique as well. The only thing I didn't like, was the gas tank, which my forearms would hit if I was moving the bike slowly. The front brakes sounded like there were two stones grinding together when applied, it was a cool sound. Very rare bike and I regret selling it.

Bollocks to top speed, torque figures are way more important to me, acceleration is where most of the fun is had. The chance to get up to the top speed of most bikes and even cars is pretty rare for most of us. Of course HP and torque figures together are still important, but if it has high HP and low torque it's not for me, the more closely matched these figures are the better (when torque is measured in Nm not lb ft).
@Pillokun
@Pillokun 6 жыл бұрын
Yet a supersport 600 is way faster than any 1000cc v-twin and they have really low torque figures. All you need to do is keep the needle high :P a daytona 675 eats any duc or sp1 any day of the week, and so does the small inline 4 600ths. But a 1000cc v-twin is cool, but slow and heavy. My old nc35 did eat a aircooled 1000cc multistrada, ie 55bhp vs 80 something and that was on a straight. v cyl is not that über good compared to a smaller 4 or 3 cyl machine, especially if the smaller one is lighter.

Yeah....whays hp w/o torque? Think a rc nitro motor makes lits of torque? F no! But yet they will power rc planes at over 200 mph....and what about a jet engine? Torque? Barely....but...1500 mph and much much better begs to differ....but 40 to 50 thousand rpm at x amount of torque doubles tripples and even 30 times more with ratio changes via gearing....piston engined vary depending on the cranks connecting rod distance from the cranks center...lots of ways to look at this

I loved the idea of a v-twin sport bike so much I bought its watered down predecessor, the street friendly SuperHawk 996 back in it's intitial year, '97. I'm telling you with a carbon fiber TwoBrothers 2 into 2 full system the 996 v-twin sounds amazing. I just couldn't wait for the real duck killer to come out. I had to have this torque monster. I probably will buy a used RC51 also. I just love these v-twins and the RC51 did it exactly what it was built to do in it's very first year. Impressive is an understatement when speaking of the RC51.

My buddy has a mint Castrol colored SP2 with Sato pipes. Nice but in person running the bike is stunning. It appears much higher quality than typical sport bikes. On vacation I borrowed his Kawasaki ELR 1200. We rode all over mountains roads north and south of the GAP south east USA. We also taken it from England over to the IOM. One thing we realized is driving it with partial throttle through very tight switchbacks is a real pain in the ass. It's meant to be opened up as much as possible. One day we had hang-overs and both were fighting over the ELR to get off this HONDA BEAST. But once rested the next day I couldn't wait for another round on the SP2 RC51. In small mileage dosages they may be one of the funniest Honda bikes made. I will say you need smooth pavement and curves or it's torture. Like a Ducati 998 this SP2 needs an owner with other bikes. But I would say it's definitely worth the money.

I had one 9 yrs ago, VTR,,sp1,, for the first 2 wks I was not that impressed and I had to learn not to high rev it but more short shift to get the best out of it , it was a heavy little lump, and at small islands or junctions at low speeds you have to slip the clutch in first as it gets jerky and wants to stall ,, on the positive side it really had bags of character and handled great round the bends ,,and unique looks, defiantly a nice bike to own,, out of many many bikes I’ve owned over the last twenty yrs , I would put it number 2 favourite behind my most favourite,,, 06 Zx10r that I would say has to be the best performing lightweight, machine made with some exotic metals , and the only bike I’ve ever owned that would do just over 100 mph in first gear, but the VTR will probably always be worth more money and has more sole and character cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧

For fuck sake man, you left out a lot of important info... freaking kids these days i swear !! You failed to mention the late Nicky Hayden won the AMA superbike championship on the RC51. You also didn't mention the RC51 replaced the RC45,.....not the RC30. Did you really get that wrong??? WTF ?? I myself was a huge Honda fan before they got super boring.... Current bike Ducati 1299 is the ultimate and last V-twin superbike. Mine comes in at about 410lbs soaking wet making over 90 foot pounds of torque !! Nucken Futs... Sorry I had to bust your balls so bad bro... but dame !!!

I've got an 03 SP-2, owned many bikes & the SP-2 is the most fun to ride- way more fun than today's bikes with all the electronic crap on em, u actually have to be able to ride.

Great video. Awesome voiceover narating 1:20 torque m"onster"? Don't today's liter bikes have more? My cbr1000rr feels like more. 2:35 why that wheezing sound? 3:25 what's with the wire?

Behind me now in the shed is my SP1. Absolute cornering machine. I sent the bouncy stuff of to Kyle Racing for a proper work over. Changed the Bike immensely! Fast....176 with stock gearing, don't need to go that fast so I dropped a tooth in the front and added three in the rear. Will pull the front up around 50 quite easily, 60-70 on a cold day. But it's the sound it makes! The gear driven cams are astounding. As you said. It's not the fastest bike out there there from 2000 But I've Never lost to a Hardley from a stop light or in a dig. Great Vid BTW!

FUCK YEAH DUDE, I bought my ex VFR for a few reasons: 1). GEAR DRIVEN CAMS AND THE MUSIC 2). V-4 POWER 3). HONDA RELIABILITY I know this is a vid on the RC51, but you're exactly right! It did share some things with the VFR HONDA and it got me reminiscing; I can see me acquiring an RC51 in the future regardless; that bike had SOUL IMO...... 'nuff said Thx for sharing

I recently purchased a 2000 RC51 and can honestly say its the only sportbike I've owned that I do not like. It's an unfriendly little brute - but maybe that works in its favor on the track. Doesn't seem to have much power, though. I'll take my Honda Blackbird and Kawasaki ZX-9R over the RC any day....

Please! "The Legendary Honda RC30" Do it! :^) I've ridden and maintained my RC51 for 8 years, I'll never sell it. The sound, and the cornering are superb. Oh yeah, If you buy one of these bikes, you must install a Power Commander to smooth the fueling, and Ohlins or other quality suspension. It's expensive, but the improvement is unbelievable.

Can you do a video on the 2001 to 2005 gsxrs. What's crazy is its 2024 and we have more people looking to buy bikes from the late 90 till the early 2000s. Once again awsome video!! 👌

It's a very well manufactured Ducati made in Japan. Greetings from Spain, Arriba las VTR.

Great video. Owner of an 04 Nicky Hayden Edition. Was thinking of selling it, but after watching your video and reading the comments of people regretting getting rid of their RC51, I think I've changed my mind. I believe I will regret it also. Especially that the bike is mint and only has 4000 miles on it. Not bad for an almost 20 year old bike. Thank you for changing my mind. Lol.

Nice video.....but full of errors.Video shows RC30, but says RC35. RPM is plural, no need for The term RPMs. The screen brace does nothing for handling, it simply braces the screen. The 851 came out in ‘87 so around the same time as the RC30. The 851-888 was built for 7 years, not 11.

Fuck Yeah!! Now THATs a Bike!! I was on the wait list for the first SP1 in 2000, I felt like that bike was an extension of me. I put 32k miles on it before wadding it at VIR (thanks to dickhead instructor racing his buddy during my session and actually knocking me off the track!). I moved all the remaining tasty bits from that bike to a 2002 SP2, and got back at it. I STILL have that bike! I can't get enough of it, it's just the perfect balance of everything for real world sport riding. Just put 240 miles on it in the NC mountains Saturday! I don't think I can bring myself to sell it, even as other bikes come and go...

You mentioned an RC35 but showed an RC30. I dont know if I’d go so far to call the 51 legendary. It was pretty ordinary in 2000 when it was released. It was a production model unlike the super rare and expensive 30s and 45s. You mentioned the fairing stay. It’s not for handling, it’s so the front fairing has support. Edwards won the WSBK championship in 2000 and 2002. Troy Bayliss won in 2001. Nicky Hayden won with the 51 in 2002. Then Honda left the FIM championship and started to race the fireblade replacement.

I had a 2006 Sp2, had to sold it because It has an extrange vibration on the front, when braking , both brake discs were ok, replace the front rim and the vibration persists.. Sold it and bought a 2008 Hayabusa. Love it untill I fall down at a curve, too much power for me.. My RC 51 was sold then and the new owner had a big crash.. He thought it was an old sport bike and hit a truck from behind, for good luck he didnt die.. .. Now I have 2015 Triumph Tiger Sport and Im happy but I still miss my old RC 51, I should never sell it.

After working on the Woodstock 94' Fest, 7 days a week for 5 weeks, I bought myself an 84' VF1000f Intercepter. I loved that bike. It was a great sport touring platform. At over 500 lbs it soaked up the miles, and that big V-4 was always ready to take you into the Triple Digits!

In 2008 when I was down to my last 11,000$ from an accident I had to go find another bike for me and I had remembered the local shop had this pristine condition RC51 they where selling some time back and I ran over there excited that for sure I would get it. SOLD! I ended up with a very costly and somewhat of a lemon MV Augusta Brutale.

Here's a mindfuck for all you people who don't understand torque: the RC51, and other liter V-twin sports bikes, doesn't actually make more torque than the inline 4 liter bikes. Torque is a function of mostly just displacement.

I wish honda made a 2000cc vtwin for off road and sport bike use and cars and sxs and quad and choppers. Do it honda 1 engine for everything. It would be amazing just super charge it and anywhere from 1 lbs boost to 15blbs boost for what power you want for what application. U can make 150hp 150 footlbs of torque easy

I see one almost every day. I have an 03. It's OK. Always wanted one. Bought a used one. Hated it in 3 months. Lol. It's aggravating at times. Vibration and weight. I was riding my 88 hawk before that. Rip through any corner at any speed in any gear to riding this fat pig. The rc definitely has decent torque. For a lot more money can get a Ducati... But the rc51 is fun and rare. That whine and rumble is a great distinguishing factor. Thunder pig! Watch out for the ground wire snapping...

I believe he had roughly 80/90 thoudsand miles on it and still sounded MEAN! when he took off from the red light....I got goose bumps hearing that vtwin . Gorgeous bikes!!!

I miss mine so much!!!!!! Yes, it was a bit heavy and cumbersome at low speeds but if you know what you’re doing and don’t mind putting a lil (cough) effort, the bike is very rewarding. Add a few upgrades like Sato rearsets, 1Krr Monobloc radial brake conversion, radiator defuser, spal fans, 15/41 sprockets, flapper delete, carbon fiber air box, a full exhaust, and a PCM, you’ll have very reliable everyday WSBK for the street. Ok, maybe more than just a few upgrades.
