I have three of these. 2.5 of them are still flyable, ahem, we can go over that later… you’ll find a higher C rating makes a huge difference in available power. I have been using 6 cell 5500’s and get around 5-7 minutes flying time depending on how heavy handed I am with the sticks. Flys excellent and mid and high speed, but will stall quite easily (as nearly all war birds are known for) at low speeds which just means you have to fly it with appropriate throttle control. The gear are stellar and have had zero issues with them retracting or extending. Kinda pricy for a foam airplane, but the receiver and ESC are worth quite a large chunk of the package price if you were to have to purchase them independently for a home made model. Thanks for the review. It is a beautiful example of a p-51D regardless of how you feel about mustangs.

Dang that landing was too close for comfort. Sweet looking bird. Looks a little under powered like you said. But damn she’s a looker. Nice flying Bobby , ya make camera man work with that blue sky. Nice job

I enjoyed both the look and the flying of this plane. It flies in a scale manner. Agree it's not overly fast, but a good scale plane should not be. If you want a fast plane, get a fast non-scale plane. The plane is also tough for takeoffs and landings, at least on paved runways. Like the real P-51, the torque of the prop pulls it to the left. This is much worse on a paved runway. It even happens if you gently work the throttle up, get it on-step, and feed in compensating rudder. I know I'll get critiques for not coordinating throttle and rudder on a taildragger. I have other taildraggers that do not have as many problems as this bird does. Yes Mustangs are especially hard. This is not my first. This plane is no different. The real weak spot of the plane is the servo connectors in the back of the wing. The connectors attach the flaps, retracts, and aileron servos. That connector is TOTAL GARBAGE and is not designed to be disconnected regularly (like for transport). It's also not designed to tolerate the bumping and vibrations that come from takeoffs and landings. I learned this one day during a takeoff. I did my normal ground check before takeoff and all surfaces worked fine. I rolled down the runway and pulled a nice, straight uneventful takeoff. Yes, I could actually pull that off despite my complaint above. Flaps came up and I noticed I had no ailerons. Thankfully we have high grass after the runway and I set it down pretty gently there rather than trying to rely on the rudder. Result was a broken prop blade and a missing gear door cover. I eventually bypassed that wing connector. after many fits and starts trying to fix that connector. I wish Horizon/Eflite took a hint from other vendors like Freewing and put in robust connectors. The plane eventually died with a motor failure caused by throwing a prop blade mid-air. The loss of the blade was caused by my poor takeoff capabilities with this plane by repeated prop-strikes when departing the pavement. At this point I gave up. This is a great looking and flying plane that is poorly designed and hard to maintain. Consider buying it as long as you are willing to accept that it's lifetime will be more limited than other comparable birds.

The battery tray retaining clips break, the battery moves mid flight. Tail heavy is not so fun. When will e-flite sort out their incredibly hard tires? I swapped mine out for low bounce Du-Bro and landings are nice and smooth.
