Nice video man its amazing to see how far video quality has come since the camcorder but its so enjoyable to see footage shot on it.. especially if zooming in and out while recording as everyone once did.. M8 shots looking sweet as well enjoying these videos with it.

Yeah it’s pretty crazy the difference 20yrs makes. From 640 to 4K and beyond! Loving the M8!

Just edited a few photos from my own M8. I really need to be better about taking it out, so I appreciate the reminder that these beasts were made to be used, not shelf princesses!

I love these takes on street photography! Just bouncing from place to place. That Panasonic also takes me straight back to high school when we would use camcorders not much more sophisticated than yours for making short films and shooting for public access TV. Wild how things have changed!

I’ve had my M8 since 2007 and I have a hard time letting go…it takes the most buttery color photos and the BW creates beautiful grain in spite or specially with its limitations just like shooting film. Great video.

Your compositions in an ordinary mall are challenging me to improve my seeing and framing. Nicely done. - - Oh, I thought a thing you might like to try with your M8. Since it is sensitive to some IR, you do not need to mod it for some IR photography. I put a R72 filter on a couple of my ZM lenses (the Sonnar is my fave) and used My M8.2 for some IR fun. The ZM lenses have that little red line on the "far side" of infinity that shows how focus needs to shift for IR. Or you can practice with that line and learn (for each lens) where you need to put the rangefinder "off" focus for IR. Anyway, it is very doable and fun and not expensive and gives a look of a different world. The only Leica lens I have anymore is an old 90mm F/4 that my late father-in-law used. It does not have a red line, but a "R" at about f/5 on the "far side" of focus. Does Leica still put some kind of IR mark their M lenses? I hope so. Anyway, have fun and keep on inspiring and imagining! (I need to use my M8.2 for some more IR stuff myself, now that I think of it.)

Thanks for sharing! I’m always trying to photograph more ordinary places. Beautiful places are easy. It’s hard to take photos in a mall! Thanks for the tips on IR. Need to mess around with it!

Hi Dave, I’m still thinking of picking up an M8……..can I download one of your dng files to check in Lightroom. I’m interested to see how the denoise and super-resolution treat the files?

Mall photography is so underrated! There are so many opportunities for shadows, lines, framing, etc. You captured it beautifully.
@davidherring4 ай бұрын
Thanks! I ended up using the black and white jpgs because, while malls are totally underrated, the mix of light temps makes it really hard do capture color. This mall was a mix of overhead daylight, soft white, and tungsten lighting all over. Made really bad colors haha.

Have you tried shooting mono on the M8 without the IR-Cut filter? I’ve not done a comparison yet as I shoot everything in RAW so leave the filter on. But the mono JPEGs without it are supposed to be incredible.

Not yet, but I keep hearing it's amazing. I'm planning to do it soon!

If you are shooting black and white, you should consider taking off the IR filter.

I'm shooting DNG and black and white JPG as well, unsure which one I'll use. Still getting familiar with the camera.

Great Video Dave! This motivates me to get out tomorrow with my M9 and shoot a bit for myself just for fun (and perhaps a bit of content 😊) Curious about future videos about the M8 and Q2M. I’m eying for a M10M currently, but it wouldn’t make sense for my right now and it’s too much money 😅
