I’m going to be 70 this year. I heard their music when I was young. Perhaps, efore my time. But, a good foundation anyway just for everyday life.

I named my black Labrador "Precious" because of this song! He's such a wonderful companion and "Oh, does he ever love to go on long walks with me!" He just goes nuts, barks out loud to let all the neighbors know that we are going for a walk until he embarrasses me, and then jumps up in the air, and leaps up to "kiss" me every time we go on one. Every time. He never seems to get over the fun that he feels, walking down the road, and roaming through the woods with me.

I played one of these concerts in the 90's. I have loved them since I was a little girl - I remember watching them sing Cherish on some variety show, in their classic varsity sweaters (hence The Lettermen). I was riveted by that song, still am, no matter who sings it. Anyway, I had to get my tonsils out when I was 6 and I insisted on bringing my portable turntable and my Lettermen album. It came in handy. I was put in a room with a baby who had "fallen into a vaporizer" - covered with scalding all over his body. He was screaming in pain but would quiet down and sleep when I put on my record. After playing this concert I went backstage and told them the story. They were really moved and said this kind of thing makes it all worth it.

I am from Arlington Texas. When I was a sophomore and Jr. In High school (69 and 71.) The letterman came to the University of Texas in Arlington and performed. I went both times. My friend Nancy Lattimore was there, and my sister Jeannie was there as well. Both times they brought two guys up on the stage and sang the song "Kansas City" the first year it was a couple of guys that San b in the band at Shakeys Pizza Parlor.I don't remember those guys names, but the 2nd year I went they brought Billy Wine and as I recall, it was Mike Pringle who got up on stage and basically took over the song. Billy Wine had played The lead in Music man, the year before. And Mike has played the mayor of the town. They rocked! What wonderful memories!!!!!!

I had the opportunity to see them in concert in 1970 and then a friend of mine got to know Tony Butala. When we were at Grad school, Tony came up to our campus and stayed for 2 days hanging out with our group. It was an amazing time. Have followed them all this time. When I got married took my wife to see them, Tony remembered me and actually had us up to their suite for a couple drinks. They are touring right now and will be, I just found out, about 50 miles from us this Saturday and I plan on going up to see the new group. Understand Tony, who acutally owns most of the group is semi-retired but hope that he is there just to say hello to him if he even remembers me. Think he'll remember his time at GWC.

I think the teaming of Tony, Gary, and Donny as the Lettermen had the best natural harmony of any of the many different Lettermen lineups. Thanks for the live concert postings that showoff that perfect harmony. Certainly they were better then the current Lettermen lineup. At least the current one has Tony's marvelous voice. His rendition of "Maria" especially has always blown me away everytime I hear it. Thanks Lettermen, all your music is beautiful and timeless.

I tend to disagree with some of the comments here: the best group in the past was comprised of Jim, Gary (Bob) and Tony. A fact. The Lettermen of old managed to develop their own distinctive style and complemented each other's voice and delivery. Although Tony doesn't have the range unlike Jim, he does have his personal style which helps augment his capacity to deliver his singing well. Just the same, the Lettermen of old helped mould my young life from age 12. I cannot thank each gentleman enough. I will be 70 in October this year. I still listen via KZbin. I was rather distraught when I read about Jim's passing. He was my Secret Love and NO one knew about it until I made a confession recently Ahem! ❤💞Cheers to all reading my comments here.

You have good taste. This is the sound of my teens and 20s. Along with things like Chicago and BS&T. And the Carpenters. My dad loved The Lettermen and the Carpenters, so that's what played at home, along with classical music.

I like the Lettermen, but I HATE it when people think that these guys actually recorded these songs... they didn't. The band I played in, Climax, recorded "Precious and Few" in 1971, and The Association recorded "Cherish" around the same time. Fair's fair, and this ISN'T.

Yes and no. Bobby Engemann died in 2013 but the other guys are still alive. The longest tenured Lettermen are Tony Butala (57 years), Donovan Tea (32 years), and Jimmy Pike (15 years and no longer with the group). Gary Pike was with the group for 14 years and Bobby Poynton, a current member, has been with the group for 11 years.
