Hey Level1, a couple of months back, in a video you had said that you could take a video of a building under construction; and if you feed to Claude or Gemini, and ask for list of OSHA violations, in the video the AI actually is capable of doing that. I live in Chennai, India and I did this a couple of times after your comment. In the first case, I filmed a short (9 seconds) video of two garbage bins in the road and asked for violations to Gemini (using their AI studio). It replied back with a list of rules violations I knew (such as mixing of plastic and food waste); but also a list that I did not know about (this included the lack of color coding on the bins. I pursued this a bit and found that there was a major violation of tender rules by our municipal corporation in this color coding thing). It also found waste spillage from the bins that I had not noticed. In a second experiment, I filmed traffic in a busy intersection and asked for violations and yet again it came up with a list of violations that I did not realize. The key is that in both these cases, it appeared that the AI was looking at the physical space as not just one in a country like India, but from its knowledge of better systems in the West - this is really useful, because when you live in a poorly regulated country, you become inured to what is going on, and do not realize the possibilities. This could be a major tool for activists in my country.

On elevators - the company I work for has a site that was built in 1926. All the elevator controls are original to that time. It experienced a control failure (tip failure, single phasing - basically not a good thing) on the main motor contactor while undergoing a PM routine. No, we did not retrofit it with anything. Took the time to find the people with the skills to remake what was necessary and repair the rest. It's back to the way it should be. Old does not mean obsolete if you take care of it (at a cost, but one that have more value than slapping in a modern controller).

Avoid The Noid! I worked for those clowns when that campaign was active. I say clowns because of current business practices. Back then, it was a viable career path, and several good friends are still store owners today. I had a stuffed Noid, purchased from the company gift shop, and sewed suction cups to his hands and feet, and he rode around on the back driver-side window, looking out. Lot's a smiling kids, and laughing parents. If I could pass on one idea, please always try to make at least one other person a day smile. If everyone did that, I suspect our national situation might not feel as dire.

I've been using a new analogy to describe AI recently that id like to throw to the wolves for thoughts. AI is that kid who reads a bunch then just writes an essay outright; as opposed to reading while taking notes, then cross checking and analysing their notes, before summarising these notes, then writing an essay based on their research. At a glance and on the surface both are "informed", but only one has actual consistency. Thoughts?

Elevators exist in one of those regulatory and economic blind spots. They came in to being when federal or even state regulation was not a thing so regulation is patchwork and ad hoc and varies greatly from place to place even within as state. Believe it or not incumbent elevator companies like it this way because it makes it difficult for outsiders to compete and they lobby heavily to keep it this way. Elsewhere in the world getting a new elevator or fixing an elevator is not that difficult but we are not going to get any nice standardized foreign elevators any time soon. Add in consolidation of the elevator vendor companies and guess what you get to pay. You only have one vendor and they've ensured it's illegal for you to go anywhere else.

The real question isn't whether or not AI can channel God, it's whether or not a human is actually capable of doing it correctly. Given that most monotheistic religions claim that humans have free will and AIs do not (yet), it stands to reason that God would be much more able to speak through AI without any errors in translation than through a human.
