In today’s video, we’ll feature the rise of Alexia Putellas from a seven-year-old who had to tell a little white lie to get signed in her first club to becoming the face of Barcelona and the first Catalan to win the Ballon d'Or in the same year she led her club to win the Treble. A joy to watch, she’s now one of only three women who have won the award, the first two being the Norwegian player Ada Hegerberg who was the inaugural winner in 2018, and the second being American player Megan Rapinhoe in 2019. Due to the pandemic, there was no award in 2020 before Alexia snatched it up in 2021 ahead of teammate Jennifer Hermoso, Lieke Martens, Sandra Panos, Irene Paredes, and other nominees.
