In this pro wrestling documentary, I attempt to look at the dark side of the ring and Terry Bollea. I explore almost every lie Hulk Hogan told throughout his career. From his run in with Richard Belzer and confrontation with the media. To lies and racism scandals. Hulk Hogan's rise to become a legend in WWE with Vince McMahon and WCW with the NWO and Eric Bischoff is full of exciting wrestling stories and some dark secrets which the Hulkster would probably rather we all forgot.

He got hooked on being "the rockstar" so to speak is my theory. And time waits for no man, not even Hogan. Wrestling is one of those things where it's pretty much only a young man's game. Sure, plenty of older people still do it, but look at them doing it in their youth compared to them currently. Luckily some had other skills to fall back on (rock with acting, chris jericho makes music ontop of still wrestling, etc), but for a lot of guys wrestling was their one and only skill. And because Hogan was the perfect "all-american" good guy that always won, he was basically the real-life superman. But all the glory and money and fame, not to mention anything that came with those got to his head.

Hogan's "neck injury" in Detroit happened just a couple of weeks after Detroit Lions player Mike Utley had been paralyzed in a game at the nearby Pontiac Silverdome. Hogan had actually visited Utley at the hospital prior to the Survivor Series, and probably concocted that angle from Utley's real-life injury.

Hogan was legit hurt in the Survivor series match, Not from his head hitting the chair, but from Undertaker over protecting him. If you watch that Tombstone piledriver, you can see 'Taker has Hogan's head between his legs more than normal, to make sure his head didn't accidentally hit the chair, The jarring from that is what caused the injury.

Hogan famously told everyone he put over they injured him. He'd act like, "Yeah brother I'm hurt but it's all good brother, but dang it hurts so bad." He'd draw on their sympathy and then later on use it to get a favor out of them. So if someone was getting hotter than him he could use that favor to get himself back over or slightly change in ring action to give himself a bigger pop.. Rumors are he did this to A LOT of guys. You'd think he was injured after every single match. Kudos to Calloway Undertaker for catching on quick. Dudes a lot smarter than he lets on especially for a greenhorn at that time. He tricked a LOT of guys with that injury lie which sucks super hard since injuries are so devastating.

It was an old trick he picked up from guys from the past. It's a manipulative tactic to gain "Favors" by telling the young guy "That was good kid, I got banged up though, that's just the job" it kinda puts it in the young guy's head maybe he should be more willing to put the older guy over no questions asked in the future.

I’m an indie wrestler, the pressure to take steroids is still VERY strong. Even coming from non wrestlers. Look even with the level of actual martial art skill Steven Segal has, and certainly it was better when he was in his prime back then. He wasn't scaring off any Yakuza. Aikido is an amazing martial art, but respectfully it's not really the martial art it began as in Japan, as many martial arts the west has adopted aren't what they originally were and are more general exercises that include basic combative techniques it was a whole shift that came from the US oversight on Japanese combat effectiveness after WW2, in order for the arts to survive they shifted from legitimate kill people combat art to beat up dumb people and exercise art and now, its really more geared towards defending oneself against a generally untrained attacker, your average big asshole bully.

As an jiu-jitsu guy he totally meant to choke him out. He made sure to get his arm under the chin and lock it in by grabbing his left arm with his right arm. This was also a time period when maintaining the kayfabe was considered super important. Not saying it was right by any means but dude should not poke the bear. That was not smart. But speaking as someone who has chocked people unconscious you can feel them go limp when the lights turn off so Hogan was well award skinny dude had went out. That's why he let go when he did. Seems like Bubba is a waaay better friend than Hogan could ever be. I mean, you have a storied career and a great life but he still had to lie about so much and everything he's ever said has less credibility. Like Elvis being a Hulkamaniac. There was no weight class head butting, kicks/punches to the groin, soccer kicks, stomping on a downed opponent’s head and punches/elbows (including 6 to 12 elbows) to where the spine joins to the skull were all legal moves. If UFC didn’t conform set up rules like we have today someone was gonna get killed as originally referees couldn’t stop the fights only KO, tap out or corner throwing in the towel). For an industry fundamentally built on acting/lying, it is hard to criticise Hogan for most of his lies/exaggerations. At some point I imagine it becomes hard for the participants to see the difference between the truth and lies, and to understand the line where a lie turns from being acceptable to unacceptable.

I mean there's fudging and blurry lines between 35 years of kayfabe and real life, that's understandable with people from the territory era who had to live their gimmick, but that really is different from wholesale egregious fabrication. Inventing complete nonsense to paint yourself as a hero is pretty far removed from just simplifying or exaggerating a bit about things that are grounded in reality.

Some of these old guys live that gimmick forever. Hart is plays up that bitter gimmick that he ended WWF with and Hogan has always been over the top, tall tales. They have never let go of those gimmicks.

Something you have to remember about Hogan is that he started in early '80s and was at wrestlemania 3 and was the first person to sell out Madison square garden at a wrestling pay-per-view was the first person to have theme music for his wrestling intro and by the mid-80s his promotionals his merchandise and his other projects he was working on he was on part-time he was only there to do the big pay-per-views WrestleMania SummerSlam survivor series Royal rumble they were the four per year one every quarter

if anyone, Gorgeous George probably innovated music in wrestling.. he had an entrance theme (Pomp and Circumstance) in the frikin late 40s and early 50s. Sgt Slaughter came out to the Marine Corps Hymn when Hogan was still in Florida and Alabama and Memphis and the like. Sarge was one of if not the first to do it in what we know as WWE, when it was still called WWWF (note the three W's)

21:19 don't forget about Hogan kicking out on 3 at WrestleMania VI to further undermind that Warrior beating him clean. Kicking out on 3 in SOME but not all cases is a sign of disrespect and it's usually never cleared between both wrestlers as one takes it upon themselves to do it in an attempt to again, discredit their opponent beating them clean.
