The Life and Works of the Gifted Dutchman, Rembrandt

I was a commercial artist by profession and, as such, a great admirer of art. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to visit some of the greatest museums in the world, including *The Metropolitan Museum of Art* in *Manhattan,* and *The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum* in *Boston,* as I live _exactly midway_ between Boston and New York City, in a suburb of Hartford, Connecticut, _only a short 2 hour drive to either city._ The painting by Rembrandt which you featured, *"The Storm On The Sea Of Galilee",* _which is Rembrandt’s only seascape,_ was on display at *The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, Massachusetts.* As I mentioned, I have visited that museum. However, I unfortunately did not have the pleasure of viewing that masterpiece by Rembrandt because on *March 18th, 1990, **_one of the most infamous art heists in history took place!_* In addition to Rembrandt's "The Storm On The Sea Of Galilee," several other great works were stolen, including: *“The Concert”* by *Johannes Vermeer,* _considered the most valuable unrecovered painting in the world,_ and additional works by *Rembrandt,* including *a self-portrait* and *"A Lady and Gentleman in Black".* Five drawings by *Edgar Degas.* “Chez Tortoni” by *Édouard Manet.* “Landscape with Obelisk” by *Govaert Flinck.* The total value of the stolen works is approximately *$500,000,000!* _and the case remains unsolved _*_to this day!_*

It is not De Hooch, but pronounced De Hough, with the gh pronounced like ch in Loch Ness. Steen is pronounced as 'Stain'. Rembrandt's surname is the river Rhine and that is how it should be pronounced in English. A bit of preparation is always sensible. There are enough Dutch speakers in Australia. Rembrandt was a Calvinist and not a Lutheran.
