And this thoughtful, relaxing pipesmoking video is exactly why we do watch. I tend to not respond as much as I probably should, but I've got a busy 'rest of my life' and KZbin is just a small part of it, so I try to keep it in perspective. Over time, as with anything else, there's an ebb and a flow that needs to be accounted for, as well. Thanks for sharing your ideas! -Tom

You make some very good points. It's not that we become discontected from the community, it's just that the community has become so big and with thousands of subscriptions it's hard to keep track of all of them sometimes. But I can't see unsubing any of them.

Hello John Great video as always. Great topic as well. I have often thought about a top 10 shout out but have been a bit reserved about it. Some of us take KZbin more seriously than others, invest more time in it than others and expect more in return, subsequently. There need not be a single model or philosophy to live by here. That being said I think you did well sharing your own view on these matters and taking the time to ponder things. I value that.

I agree, it’s the similar situation with me with my philosophy group on Facebook. It’s now over 100,000 and I find I am still relating to only the pioneer batch of supports mostly. It’s an intricate balance to make sure that one’s life and privacy is not disturbed while maintaining the group of interested subscribers. One must learn to be indifferent to negativity while doesn’t appear to be aloof.

Interesting introspective look at the dynamics involved with subbing and interacting with other members of a community John. The number you mention (150) was first brought up by Robin Dunbar in the 90's. He's an anthropologist who came up with this number by making a correlation between primate brain size and the average social group a human could entertain in regard of our own brain size.
@Aristocob12 жыл бұрын
Great video. I've never felt that a sub automatically obligated a resub, and like you said, many folks who are interested in my vids are into things on theirs that's not of interest to me. I find it interesting that I find myself eventually subbing after a presenter finds their voice. This whole issue is one of the reasons I stopped sharing my favorites and my viewing and commenting history. That and I was uncomfortable with people knowing how much I like to watch the Cowsills.

There was just another video posted recently about following the KZbin algorithms and how the standards for "success" have gone through many changes over the years. Expressing it very simplistically, the community began as a small condominium, some 3 years ago, then became a small village and his now a large town... people naturally can't walk around everywhere and everytime and start hanging more on their neighbourhood (while some just go to the mountains, like Bentbilliard - the first time I saw this matter lightly adressed was in a Dub's video and I commented very similiarly to now). What's very interesting, in my perspective is the way ...(cont)

@enderswatch Very interesting point here, in that an online relationship is not necessarily the same as societal as we know it. Perhaps this is worthy of a future video. The Savinelli is a second, or reject, due to putty fills. My understanding is that a Rhodesian has a diamond shank and has a sharper angle from bowl to bowl top (rim). I call this a bulldog, whether that's correct or not.

@LightYerPipe When you equate KZbin to television channels, a lot of things make sense as far as viewing goes. I guess the fact that there is one individual behind each YT channel makes that aspect a bit different from TV. Interesting stuff for sure Colin.

Interesting. I'd like to hear what other "old hand"think and feel on this life cycle, relationships topic is. I still am and feel like the new kid in school here and I'm interested in what other have and are getting out of being on here and how they cope with and use this outlet and way of sharing their "hobby" (pipes, tobacco and smoking). In a way I guess I'm looking how it fits into my life, and how and where I can best fit in to it. Food for thought

Just one more point - the biggest difference in the community, when comparing it now and two years ago, is that those "groups" were not necessary back then (because there wasn't as many presenters as there is nowadays) and in result there was a very diversified group of people constantly and cohesively interacting... I think that kind of transversal interaction is somewhat vanishing.

@Matches860 Surely someone must be doing it on youtube already - I know that back when I was studying, one of my lecturers used online forums (explicitly - btw, it's not considered ethical to study communities covertly) in his research. I agree with much of what you said. I don't smoke pipes or tobacco of any sort, but to me, it's the way someone can tell a story, share a point of view, etc. I (try to) do a lot of kinds of videos, but mine tend to be inspiraitonal. Some like that, some don't and I "get that" totally. As far as numbers, I see what the author of the article is saying, but I figure if it's important enough for me (and I'm saying this about me only) I'll keep up the best I can no matter the number who watch.

would definitely vary from what everyone says. The difference is how everyone deals with it, when and if, they reach that point. I think some (very few) may just buckle down and "get-r-done", some may revert back to only delaing with the handful of thier "originals" and then others just give up and stop producing videos. I don't think they leave entirely, but I think at that point they probably only watch. This is just my opinion of course and I still consider myself to be one of the NOOBS here.

The workings of society cannot be properly analyzed using a narrow, single-minded point of view; in fact it is in this acceptance of diversity that we begin to understand it. Each presenter around here socializes in a manner that is similar to that which he or she socialize in other communities they belong to. There exist no rules but those we find to be agreeable, proper or even indispensable for ourselves. We tread our own path and deal with the consequences of our acts accordingly.
